Discover the boxcar that carried the alleged body of John Wilkes Booth through Idaho. Uncover the identity of Lady Bluebeard, the unassuming Twin Falls housewife who allegedly murdered four husbands. Find out how cars ended up at the bottom of Lake Coeur d'Alene. By Amazon Customer Readers looking for some really interesting tales of forgotten Idaho history need not buy this book. What a disappointment! I was looking forward to some deep historical digging into the fascinating history of Idaho. Instead of that, Weeks presented stories with little substance. For weeks, Idaho tales happen south of the Salmon River. He writes of settlers using the Oregon trail across southern Idaho, but neglects the first non-indigenous settlement which was at Lake Pend Oreille in northern Idaho. There, Kullyspell House was a fur trading post established by David Thompson in 1809. He also neglects to say that the oldest building in Idaho is in the Silver Valley of North Idaho. The Cataldo Mission was built by indigenous peoples under the not so kind direction of catholic missionaries. He speaks a great deal about the Mormon influence on Idaho history, but neglects to say that the first state capitol was not in Boise, but in Lewiston, another northern Idaho community. Mormons from the Boise area thought Lewiston was no place for the capitol as the citizens were too "rowdy." Under cover of night, the Mormons on a mission stole the incorporation papers that made Lewiston the capitol and took them to Boise. I wish he would have mentioned that the second largest naval training ground during WW II was located at Farragut Naval Base on the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. The base is still there. Submarines are still built there using the depths of the lake (the fifth deepest in the US) to test sonar.
