Daunte had waited 25 years to visit Jamaica, the land of his ancestors. His mother swore she would never return but Grammy Maude, the matriarch, was dying. It was time. He would go alone. It would be his only chance to learn about his family and the history of Singleton Manor, the house that had been theirs for centuries. he could only image the stories these old walls would tell if only they could talk. As he unearths the truth, he finds himself embroiled in a dangerous saga of deception and secrets that span generations, cross color barriers and stretch his imagination. Walls do talk, Grammy Maude told him. And, if you listen they will tell you everything.

From the Back Cover REVIEW by DrDerrick Aarons Ph.D. MB.BS, M.Sc Intriguing and captivating, this noveldepicts the lives and foibles of people in a typical Caribbean country with ahistory of European slave ancestry. Life in such a setting is anything butordinary! Set in rural Jamaica, moving seamlessly andrepeatedly between the past and the present, scenes local and foreign, anddescribing an intricate tangle of carnal family relationships, this story is a 'must-read'for those who comprehend and can critique the intricate sexual liaisons andless than subtle interactions and coercions that denote our history in theCaribbean over the past 3 centuries! The sociology of masters and slaves, overseers and servants, employers and the underpaid and powerless employees, are all unveiled and permeate the fabric of this wonderful novel. Theincongruities of human interaction, as well as the good and evil that co-existwithin some persons, come to the fore in this small town in Trelawny. The'pain' of man's inhumanity to man, and the resilient spirit of so many who riseabove the grief and misery caused by others, provide the backdrop to the storyas seen through the eyes of Daunte, the foreigner great grandson of the family matriarch,Grandma Maude. And the walls of Singleton Manor had 'ears' that recorded allthe'goings-on' in every generation!  The mystique and intrigue of great grandmaMaude, and the sage yet concealed knowledge of her best friend Stella, areperplexing to the end. And there are some unnerving, unexpected twists that bringthis fascinating novel to a tumultuous crescendo. Dr. Derrick Aarons is the Consultant Bioethicist  for The Caribbean Public Health Agency, CARPHA, providingleadership in Research Ethics & Bioethics across the English-speakingCaribbean, with linkages for the Network in Bioethics in Central and SouthAmerica countries; the former Consultant Bioethicistfor The NationalBioethics Committee of Jamaica;the Convenor and Founding President of TheBioethics Society of the English-speaking Caribbean (BSEC)He is aPalliative Care & Family Physician with over 30 years' experience, and afrequent contributor to The Observer newspaper in Jamaica. He holds a Ph.D. in Bioethics and Experimental Medicine and aMasters in Bioethics from prestigious McGill University and an MB.BS, Medicine, from the University of the West Indies.

The clear and distinct descriptions of Jamaica from the jerk pork, the nerve racking Jamaican driving, the mango trees, to the views of the ocean completely transported me to the island as if I was an unannounced part of the adventure. The twists and turns of the plot as it unveiled the often multilevel, multi dimensional impact of family secrets captured my attention. You will laugh out loud, read in wonder, empathize, criticize and maybe even cry. Great read!

I loved the humor combined with history and very interesting characters that took me down many unexpected twists and turns as the revelations of this family and the memories stored in this house made me take a second look at both the lighter and darker side of family. A must-read for anyone who loves a good historical novel.
