Lucia, the daughter of the richest family in Pompeii, disappears one night. The mystery goes unsolved and life moves on. The lives of Pompeii's citizens intertwine: Ibis, a prostitute running the whorehouse owned by the Aedile, a city official, gets murdered by his wife Lucy. Lucy falls in love with Narcissus, the most treasured gladiator in Pompeii. The Aedile's daughter, Julia, marries Rust, the man suspected to have murdered Lucia. Maro, Lucia's slave, holds the families together and eventually discovers Lucia when she reappears in Pompeii twenty years later, and as a witch. The events in Pompeii converged and lead to its ultimate, inevitable destruction. Only Lucia can help the city and save lives. In a ceremony requiring possession by a god, murder, and necromancy, Lucia discovers what is going to happen. But not everyone manages to get away. Dying in Pleasure brings to life the long dead city of Pompeii, showing its citizens as vibrant, eccentric pleasure seekers. History, pain, violence and ritual blend in a pansexual orgy that is both exciting and extreme from beginning to end.

Fantastic, smart, engaging read By Isabelle Arden Dying in Pleasure was a great and engaging read right from the beginning, and written with such poise and balance I couldn’t help but be amazed. The characters and their relationships are rich and complex, and the world of ancient Pompeii before the explosion of Vesuvius is vividly drawn. The details of everyday life, religion, customs and ritual are all vibrant, and integrated into the narrative with a light touch – this is not only an engaging read, but a smart one.The intertwining narratives of each character, drawn together by love, sex or something bigger are marvelous and the author weaves them together expertly. The beauty and darkness of the world as it appears here, overshadowed by its inevitable destruction, makes for one of the most compelling erotica reads I’ve ever had. Thanks for the excellent book.

By Frances Historical romance intertwining two promanent families before Mt Vesuvius exploded, wiping the city off the map.The Aedile(a political figure) is in charge of the public festivals in Pompeii, arranging matches between the gladiators. He also owns several whore houses and bath houses, entertaining the public in a different way.Meanwhile, Lucia Holconia Polla dreams of her beloved Pompeii crumbling into powder. This story catches your attention from the beginning, taking you on a journey of magic, sex, murder, and mythology.Reviewer for Paranormal Romance & Authors that Rock!4 out of 5 fangs!

However, I was pleasantly surprised.Far from being a purely sex-crazed romp through the lives of characters we never get to know or like, Dying in Pleasure gives an interesting look into the world of Pompeii. My favorite parts were those dealing with the mythologies and religions of old. Actually, I think my absolute favorite part of the book is at the beginning when Ibis prays to Persephone to put to rest the soul of her friend. It's intellectual and invigorating. If you're interested in erotic fiction I highly suggest it. If this is the first time you're even thinking about looking at it, however, I would probably pull back a bit. It is VERY explicit (not necessarily in a *bad* way) and it is definitely for mature readers only. All that being said, Ristretto is amazing at tone and conveying a mood with her writing. Going back to the scene I was talking about earlier, the scene could've been the start of a horror novel or something stranger. I absolutely loved it. This talent permeates the book. The only criticism I have is that there are some spelling and grammar errors. It is self-published so that is a risk of the industry. But if I'm ever going to read another erotic novel it will be from Lady Ristretto.
