These are the adventures of teenager John, the youngest apostle of Jesus. He became known as “the disciple Jesus loved” (John 13:23), and later wrote the biblical books of the Gospel of John, the three Letters of John, and the Revelation of John. Like any teen, John and the other teenaged disciples made mistakes and were unsure of themselves. But they had Jesus and the older disciples to rely on, including John's married brother Peter and the former tax collector, Matthew. Danger and opposition followed in the tracks of Jesus throughout his travels in Ad 28, and John was close by his side to share them.
This is historical fiction. It strives to be true to all that is known about the characters, their locations, and their actions from the Bible-from archaeology and other historical sources. It fills in the blanks with a tale told by the author, informed by the author's estimate of what may have actually happened. Endnotes refer to the Bible verses which contain the stuff that really did happen. Enjoy the story, but remember that it is only part nonfiction, and the rest is in the realm of possibility. -Rolin Bruno John!: Episode 2 - AD 28, by Rolin Bruno- Amazon Sales Rank: #8566860 in Books

Episode 2 – AD by Rolin BrunoDo you want to be catapulted into an historical fiction epic of drama, humor, predictions, mysteries and miracles? Enter the second book in the saga of John, who has an up close and personal relationship with his Teacher and tells his friends, “All that Jesus has said and done matches what is written about the Messiah in the Law and Prophets and the Writings.”Along with well-known healings, casting out of foul spirits, and raising the dead, are less familiar anecdotes relevant to today’s society: saving Joanna, a survivor of domestic violence and rehabilitating Chuza, her husband, who had issues with anger, evil spirits and idolatry. In addition to The Twelve male disciples are The Four female followers. Mary of Magdala’s description of the evil spirits that plagued her is similar to negative peer pressure many teens experience today. She was vulnerable to their lies of love and friendship due to feeling sad, lonely, and afraid. She is saved by Jesus and befriended by His supporters. In an intimate conversation with John, Jesus reveals His humanity as He talks about His return to Nazareth. He admits feelings of both wisdom and sadness, about the former rewards of building houses, His current mission to build the kingdom of God, and that sometimes He’d rather be one of the workers than to fulfill his calling to be in charge. In the chapter Hometown Humbling He regrets that His power is limited by the people’s unbelief. The disciples learn much from the Old Testament scroll readings, Jesus’ parables, and His explanations that through Him they can go out and teach, baptize and heal. They see Jesus as a rock star, who teaches groupies to love their enemies and fight with spiritual weapons of truth and love. They hear the rumblings of His enemies who plot his demise. The episode ends with a cliffhanger as King Herod’s wife wants him to give her a present – the head of Jesus on a platter.Rolin Bruno brings to life the year 28 AD and the historical characters as experienced by teenaged John. The episode is action-packed, filled with modern dialogue and realism: throngs require crowd control, followers have game plans, people have questions, some are hopeless, others are hopeful, everyone gets hungry and tired; Jesus enjoys eating and naps, and carves out time away from the throngs to re-charge with His Father. The author combines historical facts about the time, places and people, with contemporary language and the timeless nature of humanity influenced by Divinity. Readers of Episode 1 will find Episode 2 even more engaging, and will eagerly anticipate Episode 3.Carol Butler, MS Ed., RN, C
