About the Author I grew up in a small town in South Florida and moved to Central Florida to attend college. The start of something good… By diducky Marissa Lawson is graduating from college and had high hopes that her internship in a prestigious company would lead to big things for her. Instead of riding the high she should be on she is struggling under a whole host of challenges. Financial issues, family troubles and an internship plagued by ill-will, her current situation could be written up as a dramatic soap opera. Dane Prescott could give her a run for her money in that regard. Family expectations and an unexpected betrayal from his lover as well as his best friend have him reeling. They say things get worse before they get better and, unfortunately, for this duo they do. Brought together by terrible tragedy and some family intervention, the two are set up to face their problems as well as each other. Their relationship may not have started in the usual fashion but it is up to them to work out their life’s path – the question is, will that road be taken together?There are so many good things to say about this first book in the Need series. The character development is solid and I really get a sense of who Marissa and Dane are. There are quite a few secondary characters in the story but they all mesh together well while each having their own unique identity. How Marissa and Dane get together is unconventional but intriguing. Seeing their family and friends support them through the many upheavals they go through is heart-warming. There was complexity to the story which had the couple at the center but allowed secondary characters to come to the forefront as well. I did struggle with a few things even as I thoroughly enjoyed the story. BDSM elements were everywhere and while it helped to ground the storyline some of the scenes seemed stilted and forced. The dialogue occasionally seemed formal , stiff and out of character for the rest of the conversations. I have to admit to rolling my eyes at the "Dom voice" being used occasionally. These minor issues did not stop me from enjoying the characters and their story so was definitely cheering for a happy outcome. This story did not end in a cliff-hanger but the many sub-plots regarding secondary characters left a lot of room for the series to continue. I enjoyed this promising start to the series and am looking forward to Nate’s story next!

Love at first sight is what happens with Dane and Marissa. A chance encounter in an elevator, a kiss and nothing more…until tragedy strikes and fate steps in to have these two meet again. The journey they face to find and keep this love it extremely enjoyable. Though the story does warn of BDSM it is done with taste and care so it is really just part of the story and the characters not crude or out of place. It is seamless how the author is able to fit in the lifestyle of the characters into the story but not overwhelming so as to put the reader off. I enjoyed the introduction of so many characters that intertwined in the lives of Dane and Marissa which made the plot even more entertaining. And I am hopeful to hear about their stories in the future with the series. Dane and Marissa go on a journey of trying to heal their hearts from past hurts and keep an optimistic outlook of their future together. In the midst of this romance you have the dark side of love in Marissa’s ex-boyfriend who will not let her go. You come to realize as the book moves along that his hatred runs deeper than being a lover scorned. The danger this character poses keeps you on edge of what is going on around the corner. Family is a big aspect of the story which definitely resonated with me. The author introduces several family members and friends of both characters who are essential for the story and are present throughout. I really look forward to reading the second installment of the series and am hopeful the author will stay true to her style and keep me up all night because I could not put the book down until I reached the end.
1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Awesome book!!! By Sue Ann B This is the first book by Cynthia P. O'Neill that I have read and OMG OMG OMG - I LOVE LOVE LOVED this book. It is another one of those books that once you start reading it, you will have a hard time putting it down!!!Marissa (the main character) is a quiet woman that seems to let people walk all over her. And while at work, she even let a fellow employee steal her ideas. As a result, while she was an intern, that employee ended up getting the job offer and she got nothing for her ideas.Dane (the bosses son) is the dominate male that likes to party, travel, and get around until he and Marissa have one steamy kiss in the elevator. I don't write spoilers - so all I will say is that you need to read the book.This book is filled with some drama, a little bit of mystery and OMG - some amazingly steamy sex scenes!!! The way that Cynthia describes everything will make you feel that you are there and a part of the story.I was given a copy of this book for an honest review.
