The only content it is missing is ECG interpretation for myocardial infarctions, ie an inferior infarct would be seen in leads II, III, and aVF.Otherwise an excellent and concise study guide.For anyone preparing for the CCRN exam I would recommend this guide and a good set of practice questions (Pass CCRN).

This is a great way to study the Critical Care Nurses Certification Examinations, not just because of its test taking tips and tricks, test strategies, and secrets but because of its content. Its content seems to be complete in reviewing CCRN exam.It discusses the diseases or disorders per system. It starts with the Cardiovascular System, followed by, Pulmonary, Endocrine, Hematology, Neurology, Gastrointestinal, Renal and Multisystem wherein it explains the cases that can affect all organs and body systems just like by having a major burn. It tells you what can happen in each system like by having a major burn, in cardiovascular system, your cardiac output may fall by 50% as capillary permeability increases with vasodilation and fluid leaks from the tissue. In the urinary system, decreased blood flow causes kidneys to increase ADH, which increase oliguria. BUN and creatinine levels increase. Cell destruction may block tubules, and hematuria may result from hemolysis and then the Pulmonary, Neurological, Gastrointestinal, and Endocrine/ Metabolic. As you can see, it was explained briefly per system in a very simple way.In discussing each system, you can see as well that it is not just pure text but it also has chart for the reader to easily understand it. It also has some pictures like the ECG reading for you to identify the different ECG readings. Just like the first degree AV block, second degree AV block as well as Third degree AV block, you would know the difference between them not just by reading what is written about it but also by just looking at the pictures.Aside from those topics, it also tackles Behavioral/ Psychosocial, Professional Caring and Ethical Practices, Advocacy/ Moral Agency, Caring Practices, Collaboration, Systems Thinking, Response to Diversity, Clinical Inquiry, and Facilitation of Learning, Secrets to Success, General Strategies, and Additional Bonus Materials. Those topics are bunch of knowledge or information that one should know before taking the CCRN exam.By checking on the book, you might think that it doesn’t have a practice test for you to be able to evaluate yourself. Practice test may not be in the book, but you can check that online and have it printed if you want to. That is why this is really a great way to prepare yourself for the exam because it seems to be complete. There are also other topics that seems to be very helpful, just like how to overcome test anxiety, medical terminology, lesion chart review, pharmacology generic/ trade names of 50 key drugs in medicine, basic review of types of fractures, and CPR review/ Cheat Sheet.

By RKINNEY If you are getting prepared to take your Critical Care Nurses Certification soon, I would strongly recommend investing in this 3 part study system by Mometrix. This particular book , along with the practice question book and the flashcards will pretty much cover every area you need to know before going in for your big test. I would encourage anyone to especially invest in this book because not only does it cover a lot of material, it also gives you "secrets" to taking the test such as pacing and preparing yourself. Good stuff to know that will help you beforehand!!
