This study guide is a reliable source because it seems to be a summary of all the topics included in Dietetic Technician, Registered Exam. From a bunch of books, the author was able to condense all the topics here in this book. Aside from that, each topic had been explained briefly but concisely. The topics are divided into five. These includes, Food and Nutrition Sciences, Nutrition Care for Individuals and Groups, Principles of Education and Training, Food service Systems and Management of Food and Nutrition Services. Each topic has also its subtopics to make it easier to read. As you can check on these topics, these are all important and should never be forgotten by a Dietetic Technician. It is good that it starts with the Food and Nutrition Sciences, wherein the reader will be able to know the Food Preparation, Nutrition Composition of Food and Principles of Normal Nutrition. In food preparation, you would know for example, the making of cheese, dairy processing techniques, and a lot more. Actually, by reading this book, it seems that the author has a first hand experience of the matter that's why, it is being presented or explained in a very simple way. It's good also that the topics are being presented in a two-column per page for it is easier to read. It is also good when they present the practice test because it is not in two column format and it is better that way. It has multiple choice questions for the practice test after the discussions of the topics. Along with the questions is its answer keys and explanations that are very clear and precise. This book also includes secrets to success, general strategies on how you will handle each test question and also some additional bonus materials that can be viewed online.

If that is what you want to do, you are going to have to take this test. This test is also hard, but if you want to be a registered dietitian, you better get used to it. People are going to look to you for plenty of answers and you will need to know those things off the top of your head. When studying for the test to get registered, the best way to study is to use this study guide. This guide has all of the elements in it that you need including comprehensive material, practice tests, and even test taking tips and study secrets. The guide doesn’t cost much and it is worth plenty. IF you buy this guide and work hard with it, you will do very well on the test and achieve your goal of becoming a registered dietitian.

The format was easy to read. I learned some things from it that were definitely on the exam. The best thing I can say is that I passed the exam and my only study materials were this product and one other online course.

I'll see you to your door."       Her already agitated heartbeat sped up. She knew exactly where this was leading if he accompanied her up to her apartment, and for a woman who had never done this, never invited a man back to her apartment on a first date, it was like someone had dropped her onto one of those death-defying loop-the-loop roller coasters that promised equal amounts of terror and exhilaration.   She shook her head, dry mouthed, realizing he was waiting for a response. "It's underground," she told him huskily, pointing to the entrance at the end of the driveway.       He guided the car into the garage, parked in her spot and followed her to the elevators. They rode the glass-enclosed lift up to her tenth-floor apartment.   "An awfully exclusive apartment for a struggling artist," Tony commented, leaning back against the wall.       Olivia pressed damp palms against her thighs as the cityscape came into view. "A friend was helping me out."       His brow rose. "A friend?"       "A nonromantic friend," she underscored, absorbing the aggressive, predatory male in him. It wasn't helping the state of her insides.       His raised brows arced into a slashing V. "Men just don't lend multimillion-euro apartments to a female unless they have other intentions, Liv."       The insinuation in his words brought her chin up. "This one did," she rasped. The elevator doors swung open. She stalked out of the car and headed down the hallway to her apartment, her head a muddled, attracted mess.       Tony caught up with her at her door. She turned to face him, confused, her stomach a slow burn. "I think you don't know me at all."       "My mistake," he came back laconically, tall and daunting. "It's a natural question for a man to ask."       Was it? They'd only had a drink. She was so confused about the whole evening, about what was happening with this beautiful stranger, her head spun. She stood there, heart hammering in her chest. Tony put a hand to the wall beside her, keeping a good six or seven inches between them, his gaze pinned on her face. Her stomach dropped as if she was headed toward the steepest plunge on that scary roller coaster, the part where one had big, huge second thoughts.     Something glimmered in his gaze. "Aren't you going to invite me in for an espresso to cap the evening off?"       "I don't know," she answered honestly, knees weak.   "Oh, come on, Liv," he chided, that glimmer darkening into a challenge. "Men are territorial. Would you expect a man like me not to be?"       No. Yes. Her head swam.       He closed the gap between them until he was mere inches from her. His palm came up to cup her jaw, his gaze dropping to her lips. Her own clung shamelessly to that lush pout she'd been staring at all night, had been wanting to kiss all night. And he knew it.       He lowered his head and rocked his mouth over hers. Smooth, questing, he exerted just the right amount of pressure not to frighten her away, and that mouth, that mouth, was sensational. She anchored her palms against the solid planes of his chest, her bones sinking into the hard line of the wall as he explored the curves of her mouth. He kissed her so expertly she never had a chance. All she could do was helplessly follow his lead. When he delved deeper, demanded entrance to the heat of her mouth, she opened for him.       Their tongues slid along each other's in an erotic duel that rendered her knees useless. She dug her fingertips harder into his chest, breathing him in, registering how delicious he smelled. He was a potent combination of heady male and tangy lime, and she was completely and irrevocably lost.       He pulled back, his gaze scouring her face. "Your key," he prompted harshly.       Her brain struggled to process the command. Blood pumping, head full, she rummaged through her purse, found her keys and handed them to him.    *****   The sane part of Rocco told him he didn't need to carry the charade any further. It was obvious Olivia Fitzgerald was not above falling into the arms of a man with a beautiful watch and a nice car if it meant rescuing her from her precarious position. Whether she displayed an irresistible vulnerability along with it was inconsequential. It was likely a well-rehearsed act.       The less-than-rational part of his brain wanted to see how far she'd let him take it. How desperate she was.   He tossed her keys on the entryway table. Watched her sink her small white teeth into her perfectly shaped bottom lip.       "I'm not so interested in coffee," he admitted harshly, watching her pupils dilate. "Do you mind if we skip it?"       She shook her head, eyes wide. Worried her lip with those perfect teeth. He closed the distance between them, the heat they created together rising up to tighten his chest. He swallowed hard at the swift kick of lust that rocketed through him as he brought his palms to rest on either side of her where she stood, back against the door. It was inconceivable to him that he could feel such desire for her given who she was, what she had been to his grandfather, even if this was a deliberate experiment to extract the truth. But she was undeniably exquisite.   Her cheeks, tanned to a light golden brown from the hot Milanese summer sun, were flushed with desire. Her chest under the worn purple T-shirt was rising and falling fast, her nipples erect against the soft fabric. Her hands lay limp at her sides, as if she had no idea what to do with them.       He did. He wanted them on him, sliding over every inch of his hot skin until he rolled her under him and made her his. Dio. This was insanity.       He dipped his hands under the frayed edge of her T-shirt and sought out the silky-soft bare skin beneath. She was enough to tempt a levelheaded man to mad acts, even his rigidly correct grandfather who had never looked at another woman after his Rosa had died. Her swift intake of breath echoed in the silent apartment as he trailed his fingers over the bare skin of her flat stomach, her midriff, the muscles of her abdomen tensing beneath his touch. Her head dropped back against the door, eyes almost purple as she waited for his kiss.       "You could bring the strongest man to his knees," he muttered roughly, almost angrily, as he brought his mouth down to hers. "But then you know that, don't you, Liv?

How HP's should be written!!! :) By TashNz Review by TashNzThe Italian's Deal for I Do is exactly how a Harlequin Presents / M&B Sexy should be written (in my opinion). It has so much awesomeness packed into the pages I don't even know where to start.I was captured from the first few pages with the brilliant descriptive writing. Rocco, our insanely amazing hero, has found out some bad news about his Granddad's bad health and the words used to describe how his heart dropped and how he found it hard to swallow was incredible - I could feel his pain, I could imagine it as if it were me! On his Grandad's deathbed he's told he must look after Olivia. Olivia who? Say what?Olivia - a brilliant brilliant character I absolutely loved her! Well Rocco decides once he's found her that she's just a gold digging piece of work who's only sad about losing her cash cow and is so disgusted that this 20 something was lovers with his Grandad. Olivia - ex world famous model - dreams of nothing more than designing, it's in her blood and she'll do anything to achieve her dreams. Of course things aren't as they seem and Liv is just as disgusted Rocco clearly things so little of his Grandfather. The incredible writing, brilliant descriptions and emotions continued to flow right through to the last page. I loved this story so much because it had loads of drama, the story flowed perfectly and the characters were written in such a way that I was so, so fully invested in them as well as Rocco's three best friends. I can.not.wait to read their stories!!! Rocco was the perfect stubborn hero, loved him to bits and Olivia was definitely his perfect match. I loved her unique story and I loved the road they traveled to reach the last page.Lucky enough to know how beautiful Pachelbel's Cannon is, that part of the story was beautiful! If you aren't familiar with it, look it up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=stCKjZniMsQ or my daughter's flute group, not bad for 12 year olds... https://vimeo.com/52505785All I can say is THANK YOU Jennifer Hayward for writing such an incredible story, #1 in the Society's Wedding series. Thank you thank you thank you! (and thank you very much for the ARC, my honest opinion is it was faaaabulous and I want more lol)

By Alexia Janie Evans "The Italian's Deal for I Do" by Jennifer Hayward was given to me for an honest review prior to the release date. I LOVED it. It was one of those stories that I started at bedtime and didn't want to put down. I did read it in 1 day as the characters and book flowed magnificently. It grabs the reader from the beginning and keeps you guessing to the end.We have Rocco Mondelli who is at his Grandfather's deathbed and one of the last things mentioned was having Rocco promise to take care of Olivia. Olivia Fitzgerald is a model who has gone into hiding after the death of her best friend and fellow model. The stress from modeling became too much too handle. At the hearing of the last will Rocco learns that his grandfather has an apartment that he knew nothing about. When he find out that Olivia is living there he jumps to the conclusion that she was his grandfather's mistress. Rocco meets Olivia and gives her an ultimatum. Agree to model for his company for one year and pose as his fiance for 1 year. Sometimes the best laid out plans can go awry. Feelings become involved, and as we learn more about each of them as a person, and their past becomes a part of the present.Great read for the 18+ readers.

By julie whiteley The Italian's Deal for I do by Jennifer Hayward is a 2015 Harlequin Presents publication. In keeping with the glamorous Harlequin Presents tradition, we meet a sexy Italian billionaire named Rocco who runs a fashion industry empire, and Olivia, former supermodel whose mother was once in love with Rocco's grandfather.Sadly, Rocco's loses his grandfather and is stunned to discover that the old man added a clause or codicil in his will preventing Rocco from taking the deciding shares of the company. It is suggested to Rocco that if he proved he could settle down and put his playboy days behind him, the board might be willing to turn over the controlling shares. But, the surprises aren't over as Rocco also learns his grandfather has been paying for a young lady's apartment and he immediately rushes to judgment about he nature of the relationship. When he meets Olivia, and hears her story, he is highly skeptical, but offers her a way to continue working on her fashion line and market it, but the catch is she must pretend to be his fiance. The fashion industry is examined and the dark underbelly is exposed as a result. Olivia is to be admired for turning her back on money and fame before she became a casualty. Olivia is talented, determined and strong willed on one hand, but she has a vulnerability that shakes Rocco to the core. I liked her for the most part and was happy to see her gain the freedom to pursue her goals and dreams.Rocco, is hot tempered, driven, and pushy...very pushy. But, he also has a soft side and can be as vulnerable as Olivia. I liked Rocco best when he wasn't being judgmental and presumptuous. But, unlike many heroes in HP, he's not a complete jerk and he folds easily with Olivia once he puts his fear, and stubborn pride behind him. Both characters saw growth and learned that while love can have a dark side , it also has great power and it's all they need to make things work between them. This is one the best recent HP novels I have read in a while and I loved, loved, loved the suspenseful ending and the HEA!3.5 rounded to 4

“We are the cats of Rekem, descended from the sacred cats of the Egyptian temple of Bast . . . gathered here to honor Yeshua ben Yosef, friend of cats—He Who Brings Life to the Earth . . .” The Cats of Rekem opens in the fabled city of Rekem (Petra, Jordan), capital of ancient Nabataea. Francisco brings Rekem to swirling, glittering life, in a kaleidoscopic pageant of exotic characters from a lost culture that reached its peak during the days of Jesus of Nazareth. On the fringes of Rekem’s urban clamor, cats quietly sun themselves, eavesdropping and speaking their thoughts into human minds as the need arises. 25 years have passed in Rekem since the child Yeshua’s rescue (in A Cat Out of Egypt) by Zaidan, a powerful caravan master, and Tikos, an Egyptian priestess fleeing Egypt with a pregnant temple cat from Bubastis. Tikos and Zaidan have married. The Egyptian cats have interbred with wild cats from the hills, and their descendants settled throughout the city with their chosen humans. In an age of relentless empire building, the independent Nabataeans stubbornly hold to their own traditions, defying the advancing Roman Empire and Israel’s grasping Herod Antipas. Yet Rekem is increasingly caught up in the tide of strange new religions sweeping through the Roman world. Although Zaidan, Tikos, and their family worship Yeshua’s One God and cherish their ties with Yeshua—both before and after his resurrection—the dark mysteries of Isis seduce their daughter Hinat into the goddess’ temple. When Tikos steps in to protect Hinat, King Aretas is enraged by her insult to the gods who stand behind his throne. All of Zaidan’s clan lie beneath the threat of his simmering wrath. Into this turmoil stumbles a bemused young Apostle Paul, smuggled out of Damascus by Zaidan’s sons, Yeshua’s cat Mari, and Mary Magdalene. Still reeling from his vision on the Damascus road, Paul is painfully confused about what his new life will mean. But his arrival in Rekem attracts the palace’s attention, loosing a flood of scandal and violence that endangers everyone around him . . . as well as threatening his own future before it can even begin.

About the Author C. L. Francisco has always chosen fiction for her downtime reading: “Fiction sneaks up on me, gets under my guard, and touches my heart in a way that non-fiction can’t,” she says. “It opens up new possibilities and sets me dreaming. For me, life-changing books have always been fiction. That’s probably why I chose to write a book like Yeshua’s Cat.” A retired college professor, Francisco found her faith again several years ago after a time of radical doubt. Her conservative Christian upbringing, undergraduate study at Mount Holyoke College, year’s stay at L’Abri, early career years in art therapy, and PhD in world religions had all contributed to her questions. But as a woman whose life had always been grounded in faith, she struggled to find her way again. Oddly enough, the voice of non-human nature spoke more clearly than any other—except for C. S. Lewis’ fiction, which she never abandoned. The whispers were faint at first, and often resulted in dead ends, but when they finally spoke clear, she found herself in the presence of the Christ who lives beyond all walls. The Gospel According to Yeshua’s Cat had its roots in Francisco’s desire to offer fellow strugglers a fresh perspective on Jesus of Nazareth. The book’s feline narrator speaks with the wise voice of a young cat whose death after a devastating wildfire provided Francisco with the impetus to begin the book. A Cat Out of Egypt emerged from readers’ eagerness for Francisco to write another book in the same series after The Gospel According to Yeshua’s Cat—something she had never planned to do. But once the idea took hold, A Cat Out of Egypt came to life almost as if it had been waiting fully formed just below the surface of her thoughts. A stand-alone prequel to Yeshua’s Cat, A Cat Out of Egypt introduces Francisco’s original feline character’s many-times great-grandmother Miw, beloved of the child Yeshua. The Cats of Rekem (November, 2015) will be the third volume in the series. Several characters from the two earlier books—human and feline—appear in a richly layered story culminating in the early ministry of Paul the apostle. Join Tracking Yeshua’s Cats, C. L. The Cats of Rekem completes Ms. Francisco's magical telling of Christ's life (childhood though Resurrection and beyond) witnessed and recounted by cats and their human companions. This last book again picks up the story of what it must have been like in that time . . . and, most importantly, portrays Jesus as at once human and divine. In one memorable scene Francisco demonstrates her rare skill at allowing the numinous to transform and redeem the ordinary when Jesus calls a young girl back from death's doorstep . . . and a glory of stars and light gathers around them. Just as important, we see Paul the stunned no-longer Pharisee hesitantly finding his first steps toward the towering leader of the early Christian church that he will become . . . with those steps guided by a family of nomadic traders and their cats of fabled Petra (Rekem) who have followed Yeshua from his childhood. Before all the creeds, before all the dogma and scripture, there was Yeshua . . . and this family, and their cats, living and finding their way in the light Yeshua showed them. Francisco puts us there at the beginning of Christianity.

Read a chapter . . . your disbelief will evaporate, and you’ll be hooked on The Cats of Rekem. Like C.S. Lewis’ talking beasts, Rekem’s cats speak, and are often wise. And like George McDonald’s fantasies, Rekem glows with wonder. It brought me close to tears more than once. The author spins an enthralling tale of an ancient desert culture (and its cats) around the time of Jesus' resurrection and Paul the apostle's conversion experience—and how they all might have been intertwined. The staggering hugeness of Paul's journey from Pharisee to “infant” apostle was imaginatively, realistically, and sensitively handled. The Cats of Rekem is the sequel to A Cat Out of Egypt and The Gospel According to Yeshua's Cat, both extraordinary and highly recommended. Great read, impossible to put down!

By Linda J Henderson I just finished reading The Cats of Rekem, and it was just as wonderful as the first two books in this series by C.L. Francisco. I am even a little breathless at the unexpected turns this story made in the last half of the book.I love the way the author weaves the truth of the Gospel lived out in the ordinary lives of her characters while keeping their lives true to the time period and places she writes about. She also creatively weaves the lives of some wonderful cats into her character's lives and adds their thoughts into the story as it unfolds.Thank you C.L. Francisco for another 5 star, wonderful book that will long stay in my thoughts.

Born to Anglo-American parents on the Appalachian frontier, captured by the Miami Indians at the age of thirteen, and adopted into the tribe, William Wells (1770–1812) moved between two cultures all his life but was comfortable in neither. Vilified by some historians for his divided loyalties, he remains relatively unknown even though he is worthy of comparison with such famous frontiersmen as Daniel Boone and Davy Crockett. William Heath’s thoroughly researched book is the first biography of this man-in-the-middle. A servant of empire with deep sympathies for the people his country sought to dispossess, Wells married Chief Little Turtle’s daughter and distinguished himself as a Miami warrior, as an American spy, and as an Indian agent whose multilingual skills made him a valuable interpreter. Heath examines pioneer life in the Ohio Valley from both white and Indian perspectives, yielding rich insights into Wells’s career as well as broader events on the post-revolutionary American frontier, where Anglo-Americans pushing westward competed with the Indian nations of the Old Northwest for control of territory. Wells’s unusual career, Heath emphasizes, earned him a great deal of ill will. Because he warned the U.S. government against Tecumseh’s confederacy and the Tenskwatawa’s “religiously mad” followers, he was hated by those who supported the Shawnee leaders. Because he came to question treaties he had helped bring about, and cautioned the Indians about their harmful effects, he was distrusted by Americans. Wells is a complicated hero, and his conflicted position reflects the decline of coexistence and cooperation between two cultures.

William Wells and the Struggle for the Old Northwest, by William Heath Ph.D.

Review “One of the most important but shadowy characters from the story of the Old Northwest is William Wells, the ‘white Indian,’ who lived and died between two worlds in conflict. William Heath brings a novelist’s graceful style and a historian’s impeccable research to this fascinating biography.”—Paul Andrew Hutton, author of Phil Sheridan and His Army“William Heath has given us a thoroughly researched, detailed, and comprehensive account of the life and times of one of the most interesting and enigmatic figures on the early American frontier.”—Colin G. Calloway, author of Pen and Ink Witchcraft: Treaties and Treaty Making in American Indian History“The truth-is-stranger-than-fiction remarkable life of William Wells has found an ideal biographer in novelist-turned-historian William Heath. This deeply researched reconstruction of Wells’s side-shifting odyssey brilliantly illuminates the confusing choices and challenges that confronted Indians and pioneers as they struggled against one another and with themselves on the early American frontier.”—Stephen Aron, author of How the West Was Lost: The Transformation of Kentucky from Daniel Boone to Henry Clay

About the Author William Heath is Professor Emeritus of English at Mount Saint Mary’s College, Emmitsburg, Maryland. He has published numerous essays and poems and is the author of the novels The Children Bob Moses Led, Devil Dancer, and Blacksnake’s Path: The True Adventures of William Wells.

Wells embodies a transitional status. Born into a frontier white settlement yet captured and raised as an Indian, Wells played a central role in the European settlement and conquest of the Old Northwest. He illustrates the agony and complexity involved in Native-American and European-American relations. Heath is extremely well informed about early American political life and history, and his study is unusually good about connecting life on the frontier with decisions made in the Eastern halls of power.

William Wells was one of the most fascinating characters of the Old Northwest, and the American Frontier. He was born into a prominent frontier family, but captured by the Miami Indians as a young boy, who raised him as one of their own. Wells not only learned the Miami language, he also learned the skills a young Indian man needed to succeed in Miami culture: hunting, trailing, war making among other things.Heath relates, but does not commit to agreeing with, tales that young Wells was one of those white captives who lured rafting/flat boating American pioneers floating west down the Ohio River to come to shore, ostensibly to aid the captive. Once the victims were within ambush range, the Indians would attack, and kill or capture whomever they could, taking what goods they found valuable. At some point Wells married a Miami woman, with whom it appears he had children. She and her children fade from history. Later, Wells married Sweet Breeze, the daughter of the famous Miami war chief Little Turtle, with whom he also had children, and for whom Wells provided extensively. These children passed into American society in their own rights, and some achieved some minor fame in their own right.Later, in two successive years when American military forces attempted to punish the confederacy of Indians living in the general vicinity of what is now Ft. Wayne, Indiana, Wells fought with the Indians. The latter of these expeditions resulted in the Battle of the Wabash, a/k/a St. Clair's Defeat, in which the American army suffered the worst defeat inflicted by Indians in its history, suffering casualties over three times those Custer's 7th Cavalry sustained at the Little Big Horn battle. Wells’ father-in-law, Little Turtle, was one of the two major Indian battle leaders. In the Wabash fight, Wells actually distinguished himself, leading Indian sharpshooters who directed their fire against the American artillery, targeting first the officers and then the gunners, resulting in the silencing of the guns. However, after visiting his white relatives in Kentucky, Wells decided to return to white American society. (One well-regarded author asserts this was with the assent and approval of Little Turtle, who sought a reliable contact (or spy?) among the Americans. See The Life and Times of Little Turtle by Harvey Lewis Carter (U. of Ill. 1986).) He then became the lead scout for Gen. Anthony Wayne’s military expedition that led to the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1794. Heath credits Wells with providing Wayne with critical, battle-winning tactical pointers, including the suggestion to hold in place for a day or so before launching the attack on the Indians’ position, which was in a very defensible spot along the Maumee River where large trees blown over by high winds formed natural breastworks, and where the ground provided the confederated Indians with other advantages. Wells told Wayne that Indians usually don’t eat before going into battle, to avoid internal and fatal poisoning if they are shot in the stomach area. Thus, by waiting, the Indians would grow hungry and leave their positions to seek food, which some did.In some ways what is more fascinating is what followed this decisive battle, which broke the back of the Northwest Indian Confederacy. Wells became a professional go-between, as an official translator (as at the famous treaty of Greeneville) and as the Indian agent at Fort Wayne for the federal government. Some of Wells’ dealings were highly controversial, but Heath points out that much of what brought criticism was merely Wells providing sufficient rations and support for the now-dependent local Indians during a time of governmental austerity. (Yes, the US did have such periods, once.)Wells service as a go-between must surely have raised conflicts for him, though he continued to serve or seek service until the end. Wells’ story brings to light the perspectives of two much different cultures, and his efforts to bring those cultures together deserve study and recognition, even if they failed in the end. His long-term partnership with Little Turtle is also worthy of study, as the two men sought to achieve ways in which Indians could accommodate the newly-dominant culture without losing their own identities as Indians. While Wells and Little Turtle were much-maligned at the time by more militant Indian resistors, the fact was – without putting a value to it – the days of traditional Indian life in the Old Northwest were essentially over, as the new American nation steamrolled its way West.Wells’ own end was as dramatic as was his life. When the War of 1812 broke out, Ft. Dearborn (at Chicago) was ordered to be evacuated. Wells’ niece was living there, married to an American officer. He volunteered to go to Dearborn and to lead the American troops and local citizenry back through Indian Country to the relative safety of Ft. Wayne. However, not far from the fort, and as Wells anticipated, the Americans were attacked by about 500 Pottowattamies, who were aligned with Tecumseh’s new Indian Confederacy. The battle was over quickly, as Wells, who painted his face black in the Indian fashion of those facing death, must have known would be the case. Yet Wells died heroically, trying to protect his charges. In death, the Indians cut out and ate his heart as a ritual of respect for a courageous warrior.Professor Heath’s book is extremely well-written, well-paced, and easy for the lay person to follow, even though it is also the work of a true scholar. Among his original source materials are the many official reports Wells wrote in service to the federal government, as well as the reports and letters of Wells’ contemporaries, including Indiana Governor (and later General) William Henry Harrison, who still later became President (“Tippecanoe and Tyler too!”). Heath thoroughly documents his sources in extensive footnotes, some of which a very interesting in their own right, and which will provide solid guidance for those who wish to take scholarship on the subjects further. All-in-all this book superbly a terrific story of a fascinating Frontier character whose life too little has been written. It also provides excellent insight to the old world of cultures whose heydays have passed, even though their values and stories continue to be maintained by modern descendants.

"

It was 1968 and Robert Hartley was on his first combat mission in Vietnam as copilot of a helicopter gunship. As he and his platoon leader flew over the A Shau Valley, a Chinook helicopter engulfed in flames suddenly came into view. Hartley noticed tiny black smoking objects exiting the tail ramp of the aircraft. Seconds later, he realized those objects were men escaping the flames and plunging to their deaths. It was in that moment that he silently wondered, “How the hell did I get here?”

Mr. Hartley was still wet behind the ears when he was tossed into the cauldron of America’s most unpopular war as an attack helicopter gunship pilot. As he shares a gripping, birds-eye view of battles that took him from the Demilitarized Zone in the north to the Mekong Delta in the south, Mr. Hartley compellingly details how he learned to rely on his superior training and equipment to follow through with his mission to kill the enemy and save the lives of his fellow soldiers below.

Gunship Pilot provides an unforgettable glimpse into two combat tours of duty in Vietnam as a helicopter pilot soaring high above rice paddies and jungles attempts to fulfill his duty of protecting America’s warriors on the ground.

Mr. Hartley picks up the narrative after he completed training and qualification and has the reader in the thick of the battlefield from the very first paragraph. Without using objectionable language and without accosting the reader with gratuitous word pictures of the carnage of war, he lets the reader know just how ugly things were in the Vietnam conflict. I'm thankful for men like Mr. Hartley who served well and have provided us with a written record of their experiences.

6 of 6 people found the following review helpful. A sober account. By Capt Bob This is a straight forward telling of the author's first hand experience as a Army helicopter pilot, mostly flying gunships, or armed helicopters. As in other books written many years after the fact, the author is quick to point out that this telling is as he remembers it. Flying gunships in combat is often not what the reader might assume and reading this account will enlighten you. It is not an omnipotent platform on high from which you easily rain death upon the mere mortal enemy below. Even the guns get shot down. The writing is workman like, but readable and the story flows from beginning to end. One odd quirk is that the author will sometimes self consciously warn the reader of about to be revealed horror, just in case the reader might find it disturbing. It would seem that the writer found it disturbing in the remembrance and assumes the reader may too, though any reader who picks up a book about war, well, you can see where I'm going with this. This is a sober account of a very dangerous occupation and should be instructive to anyone thinking about a career in Army flying.

His account of two combat tours flying Cobras gives the reader the unique perspective of the gunship pilot. It's a great read written in a style that lets you be a part of his experience. As a bonus, Mr Hartley appears to have answered the question of who is tougher, Rangers or Green Berets. But you'll have to read Chapter 19 to get the answer. Hats off to CW4 Hartley and all those who served in Vietnam.

A willow tree, soft and flowy on the outside, unbreakable and strong on the inside, left to brave the lashings and extremities of wind and storm but never quite breaking. Hanako Ishigaki was just 9 years old when her father decided to uproot the family from traditional and beautiful Kyoto and migrate to Hawaii. ‘You are not uprooting this family to some strange outlandish place where we will have to start all over again and maybe never be accepted,’ his wife ranted. ‘Why, Kazuo? Why? We are Japanese and we should live here till the day we die.’ But this was one time Kazuo Ishigaki refused to budge. We follow Hanako’s arduous journey to Hawaii on a passenger liner and the shock of finding no one waiting for them there. By a sheer stroke of luck, if one could call it that, the Ishigaki family, used to much better times and lives, ended up in Kauia Island in a Japanese settlement called Furusato to work in a sugar plantation alongside thousands of Japanese migrants. The book describes the colorful lives of the Japanese migrant community in Hawaii in the eyes of the young Hanako and the conflict of two cultures, east and west. How eventually did Hanako end up in the big city, Honolulu, where she was to meet James Robertson and start a love affair that was to span and survive 35 years of separation, war and betrayals to end one cold afternoon in a sterile hospital room where the loose ends of two people’s lives and passion finally came together to find closure. And then, one day, at the peak of the post Pearl Harbor backlash on Japanese Americans, when Hanako thought that living behind barbed wires at the Japanese American internment camp of Manzaner, they had hit rock bottom, there was that dreaded knock on the front door and a soldier served a deportation order to Japan on them….. This story is told against a gripping backdrop of war and the horrors and humiliations of the Japanese American war internment camps following Pearl Harbor. But even in the most dire and hopeless circumstances people can dream and Hanako and her best friend, Melanie Tanaka dreamt of pitching their unusual talent in fashion designing into the world of haute couture and high fashion. The odds against them were as unscalable as Mount Fuji in winter but dreams were free…. As the overcrowded ship carrying hundreds of deportees labeled ‘enemy aliens’ approached the shores of Japan, Hanako told herself firmly. ‘We’re going to be all right here, I’m sure of that!’ Was she right? Or would things get really bad before they became better? So many things happened to shake and test the strength of this willow tree that readers may ask how did she continue to get up after each blow? This book is based on the true story of the turbulent life of Hanako Ishigaki as she was tossed around by the winds of migration, war internment camps and an incredibly unlikely and impossible love affair woven into it to add poignance to a story of great courage and determination to survive and succeed against all odds. How will it end?

Like a Willow Tree, by Rei Kimura

About the Author Rei Kimura is a lawyer with a passion for writing about unique events and personalities. She has adopted an interesting style of creating stories around true events and the lives of real people in a number of her books, believing that is the best way of making hidden historical events and people come alive for 21st century readers. With this objective in mind, Rei has touched on historical events like the horrific sinking of the Awa Maru and the Kamikaze pilots of World War II and woven them into touching stories of the people who lived and died through these events. Then there are stories of courage, love and rejection beautifully portrayed in “Butterfly In the Wind” a story of the concubine of Townsend Harris, first American consul to Japan, set against the colorful and turbulent era of the Black Ships. This book has touched the hearts of many and been translated into languages from Spanish, Polish, Russian, Dutch to Thai, Hindi, Indonesian, Marathi.Rei's writing also touches on interesting issues like that raised in “Japanese Magnolia” a book based on the true story of two men, a samurai and a peasant who dared to cross two forbidden areas in feudal Japan, that of homosexuality and a class society “so sharply defined it cut like a knife.”Other controversial stories she has written include “Japanese Rose” a book which asked the question was there ever a Japanese female kamikaze pilot in the Second World War?But it's not all history and culture, she also writes on contemporary events like “Aum Shinrikyo-Japan’s Unholy Sect” an expose of the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway.Occasionally, her love for animals and sense of humor surfaces in this very heart warming and delightful story of a rogue Pomeranian dog, “My Name is Eric,” a complete departure from Rei’s normal story lines but nevertheless, a refreshing one! Kimura considers her writing as part of the perennial quest for truth, challenge and fulfillment. Her books have been translated into various Asian and European languages and widely read all over the world. Apart from being a lawyer, Rei Kimura is also a qualified freelance journalist and is associated with the Australian News Syndicate.

1 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Good historical fiction By Nature Lover2 I am very fond of historical fiction and Like a Willow Tree is an engaging work set in the pre- and post-World War II era in both Japan and America. This love story is primarily told from the experiences of Japanese-American citizens who were not only interred during the war but for some, like the Ishigaki family, deported back to Japan. And although the Ishigaki family was Nikkei (that is, originally from Japan with long term visas), some of the families that were deported were Sansei or 1st and 2nd generation English-speaking Japanese-Americans who felt like foreigners when they were forcibly returned to their ancestral homeland. The author does a great job of defining for the reader the inner conflict of the protagonists who had to choose, during the war, between their allegiance to one country over the other, when both countries had customs and cultures that were endearing to them. And throughout the book, the parallel of cultural similarities and differences was skillfully conveyed. Racial prejudice, of course, was on display at every level in the US including the Asian community where the Chinese sought to separate themselves from the Japanese all the way up to the highest level of the US government. I enjoyed the book and would recommend it as a good read. So why the three (3) stars? There were parts of the book where the writing was exceptional but I was disappointed by the many typographical errors that I found, as if Oak Tree Press did not bother to proof-read or edit the material. I could cite a number of examples but a few include "new York", "fare for the word far", and the non-word "acand" (which by the way I was never able to reason the intent). Also on a couple of occasions, several lines of text were missing (e.g., at the beginning of Chapter 23). I don't know if this is an issue of "translating the text to the digital Kindle" (as it has happened with other Kindle books) or if this too is poor editing. However, I am willing to risk purchasing a second title by Rei Kamura but if editing continues to be sloppy, I doubt I'll be looking to read any more of her works. Finally, when the book shifts to approximately 35 years after WWII, the lead characters are using cell phones for international calls, and this is when the credibility is lost. While the cell phone was introduced as early as 1973, by the early 1980's they were still these huge bulky copies of landline phones and did not have the capability for international calls. The first multi-band (capable of roaming in different countries) cell phone was introduced by Motorola in 1999, some 50 years after the war ended.

0 of 1 people found the following review helpful. needs more editing By ishibob The author needs to do more research. Altough a fiction, there is no need to twist the facts on such a sensitive subject. There were no mass relocation from Hawaii to Manzanar. Especially from Kauai. Also the ocean between Japan/Hawaii and the US is the Pacific, not the Atlantic. eg. transatlantic phone calls, traveling on the Atlantic by ship from Hawaii to Japan etc.

Early on the morning of September 1, 1996, the Israeli military began preparing for a war with Syria they were convinced was imminent. The Israelis had received top-secret intelligence from a Syrian general and informant code-named Red Falcon, recruited 23 years earlier by Mossad spy Yehuda Gil—himself known as "the man of a thousand faces." Gil had been the general's sole handler, the conduit of decades of critical intelligence. But now, on the brink of war, questions arose about who exactly was handling whom. What information was real and what was a lie? Was Gil, a man of mythic exploits in Israeli intelligence, a hero or a traitor? With exclusive access to Gil and other key figures in one of the greatest intelligence intrigues in modern history, celebrated Israeli investigative journalist Ronen Bergman unravels the incredible true story of the Yehuda Gil affair. Bergman's unprecedented reporting takes him to the heart of Israel's shadowy spy agencies, arguments at the highest levels of a government lurching toward war, and last-minute secret meetings at the CIA and the White House to avert it. At the center of it all is the mystery of Red Falcon, his spymaster handler, and the very nature of deception.

By Ping A talented storyteller and the most authoritative reporter on Israel's security establishment, Bergman tells the story of Yehuda Gil. Gil a highly regarded Mossad operative who provided ill guided intelligence that almost led israel and Syria into a war. Many tried to understand what can motivate Gil to provide such potentially disastrous intelligence but once again only Bergman managed to get the story and to get it right. Chapeau !

You won't be able to keep your hands off the book until you finish reading it. Ronen Bergman's writing alongside the story itself are a complete pleasure for the reader. Sources of information only he has and stories only he is able to find are the foundation of his book. Ronen Bergman's talent is so unique that he can sweep the reader into the story. I would definitely recommend this book.

It is about a young man named Billy who goes on a hunting trip with his Dad, Grandpa and older brother, something he has never done. What takes place was unexpected. His family is taken from him one by one until no one is left but him and he is alone, in the woods. His quest to find them gives him more strength than he knew he had, and when he does find them, he too is taken.Who he is taken by is an unexpected moment. There is a lot of drama and evil that takes place in this book but Billy is determined to save them all. When he escapes, it is by the help of a new and unexpected friend who comes out of nowhere, and he gives Billy the faith to go on. He helps to show him the way and continue to help him even during times of greatest despair. When all hope seems lost, his faith and belief in God leads him through.I read this book in one day and what made me want to continue reading was the fast pace, the characters and the words of the the story .To make the book even more compelling, it was published by the author to help raise money to bring over a girl from Eastern Europe that they met during the summer and fell in love with. She would become their fifth daughter. This book is a must read.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Overcoming Fear & Learning to Trust By Semmie ** “Fear and trust are funny things. One can trust in his heart, really trust that God is sovereign and able to do miraculous things through every day men and women in the direst situations, but reason and logic demand that the mind experience fear, fear of pain, of loss, of death.” **Mike Dellosso delivers another home run with “Fear Mountain,” a novel he recently released to help his family’s adoption journey. They hope to bring home a teen-age girl from Eastern Europe, and the proceeds of this book’s sales help them in their quest. So buying this book is a win-win — you get a great piece of fiction to read AND you help a young girl join her forever family! But back to the book.“Fear Mountain,” told from the perspective of 17-year-old Billy Harding during the post-WWII era, finds Billy and his brother, father and grandfather on their annual hunting trip on Bear Mountain — known as Fear Mountain by the locals. However, Billy doesn’t really want to be there, because he can’t possibly be more different than his dad and brother, Henry. They love to farm and hunt and do “all things manly.” Billy loves to read and learn and hopes to maybe be a preacher one day. He has a way overactive imagination and is afraid of everything, especially the woods. One night during this hunting trip, his grandfather, who is suffering from Alzheimer’s, goes missing. What follows is a crazy, heart-pumping, scary tale. I’m not going to talk much more about the plot because I don’t want to give away anything, but it’s incredible. And Billy, self-proclaimed scaredy cat, finds himself in the position of having to save his family. He must learn to dig down and find the strength and faith to rescue them.Dellosso’s writing is very descriptive. An example: “Looking up into the abyss that sprawled above us, watching the darkness enclose and swallow the flashlight’s beam much like an octopus envelopes its prey in a tangle of tentacles and slowly, steadily, draws the helpless victim toward its beaklike mouth …” He’s such a descriptive writer, you will feel like you are right in the middle of the action. Dellosso also makes several references to Biblical characters like Sampson and Daniel, but in almost a humorous manner in the middle of a stressful situation.“Fear Mountain” is a novel of prayer, faith, rescue, questioning if a person can change, listening to our calling, overcoming fear, and trust — can Billy trust the stranger, Peter, who mysteriously appears and, more importantly, can he trust God? It reminds us God is always in control, as does this quote: “But our God is a God of order and the sun always rises, pushing back the darkness and giving way to hope and a new beginning, a new day.”This book will intrigue you right from the beginning and leave you on the edge of your seat until the very end. One small disclaimer though, there is violence in this book — quite a bit of it.I always enjoy the twists and turns Dellosso offers in his novels. Five stars out of five.

Luckily, the holidays allowed for the time, because I would have gone nuts with anticipation. I'm a recent big fan of Mike Dellosso's books & this, I have to say, kept my heart racing from start to finish like no others. I love how Mike gets right into the story...no opening fluff. From the time Billy wakes up, the mystery is afoot. This story also made me more uncomfortable than others (in a good way), sweating & squirming through the detailed accounts of the character's agony. (SPOILER ALERT) The way Peter suffered in the place of Billy's family...what a perfect parallel to Christ's sacrifice. Also the way we are called to trust in him, even when we can only see darkness & want to act out of impatience or our worldly sense of urgency. It really spoke to & convicted me. I say this without hyperbole that Fear Mountain kept me on the edge, heart racing from cover to cover. A real thriller in my book!
