In Book 2, Bill Sullivan's search for mustangs ends in the discovery of a young, lone survivor in the wilds of Montana, he does his best as a father, and a Christian, to care for the child. However, the boy's scars, both physical and emotional, run as deep and as long as the Rocky Mountains that surrounds him. Meanwhile, Sean Thomas does his best to evade the hangman's noose, by living in the mountains of Montana and becoming a shadow throughout the town of Fort Benton. But his acquaintances with the riffraff of this new territory: whores, bank robbers and whisky smugglers...keep him on his heels. In the words of Mandy's song, it's a story of love, sadness, excitement, and courage with life's lessons, the most truthful being, 'life is not fair'. And despite that, one still has in his heart, the ability to FORGIVE. **************************************** ‘Montana Son’ is written like a Laura Ingalls-Wilder novel, but with less than perfect characters filling the pages, in towns hindered by more than just God-awful weather and incurable disease. It’s chock-full of idioms, cowboy expressions, and historical facts.

At the height of their power in the ninth and tenth centuries, the Vikings seemed invincible – conquering, well-armed warriors whose ships were the ultimate in seafaring technology. From island bases near the deltas of major rivers, they used the waterways to scour the countryside, looting and burning towns, plundering merchant shipments, and stripping churches and monasteries of their gold, silver, and jeweled treasures. The Norsemen eventually penetrated all of England and Scotland, founded cities in Ireland, gained a powerful province in France, controlled Frisia and the modern Netherlands, and raided lands around Spain, passing into the Mediterranean to attack Italy and North Africa. They established the first Russian kingdom, challenged Constantinople, and provided a personal guard for the Byzantine emperor. They settled Iceland, where they developed Europe's first republic, founded two colonies on Greenland, and explored parts of North America five centuries before Christopher Columbus landed in the Americas. Then, like the abrupt end of a summer thunderstorm, their adventures ceased. Here is their dramatic story.

Great overview of the Viking Age By Ray Settle Answers many questions about the Vikings and provides IDs for characters in the History Channel series. Tells of the fates of Bjorne, Ivar, and Rollo. The show condenses history a bit to allow characters to cross the centuries to depict key Viking events.

By Odessa Everyone knows a little about the Vikings, but television shows and movies tend to muddy the water, so to speak. It is nice to read a clear but not endless or monotonous chronology of the Viking era. I like that author explained different versions of specific events that have been passed down. Being primarily of northern European heritage, it is hard to visualize what my ancestors must have gone through just to survive. It was interesting, also, to read how the Vikings were eventually assimilated into the local cultures and became more civilized.I liked the book, and thought it was well written. It helped me put together pieces of history that previously seemed disconnected. I would read other books by this author.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Very Interesting Read By Larryo I originally purchased this book to see how it and the History Channel series "Vikings" compared. I found many instances portrayed in the series actually happened, but not to the same people or timeframes.Ultimately what I learned from this book was the extent to which the Vikings influenced other countries such as Great Britian and Ireland. This helped me understand my heritage and showed me why 75% of my ethnicity are from theses areas.

The Divorcee's Lust For Younger Men

They say that the most important thing in the world is to know yourself. I believe that. The year after my divorce I was crushed, defeated, and felt so small that I wanted to disappear from the world. I had caught him with a woman half his age, and it had torn my heart apart to see my future gone in a second, the past turned to lies. Maybe you will judge me for the things I did, for the desires and lusts that burned deep within me, waiting to be sparked. Go ahead. I would do it all again.

Hot and intense By Romancing the Book Reviewed by CrystalBook provided by the author for reviewReview originally posted at Romancing the BookWhen I finished the first book in this series I knew that I had to read the next one ASAP. I knew there was more to Gemma and Will’s story. I wondered if it would be better than the first one and I was surprised that it was even better than the first one. I knew there was no way I was going to put this book down until I had finished it all. I let everything go while I read it all.The sex in this book is even hotter and more intense. There is even some comedy in this book. I enjoyed reading every word that the author had wrote. I just wish that I could write a short story like she did. I would love to meet this author in person because she is a very nice and kind author. I enjoyed everything that she sent. Maybe one of these days I can meet her and pick her brain to see how she came up with this great series.

Charles I or Charlemagne united most of Western Europe during the Middle Ages and laid the foundations for modern France and Germany. He was the first recognized Roman emperor in the West since the collapse of the Roman Empire three centuries earlier and ruled absolutely over a vast domain for thirteen years. Einhard’s biography of the Carolingian Empire’s founder The Life of Charlemagne: Vita Karoli Magni is one of the most famous pieces of literature on the early Middle Ages. It is both an epic and personal account of the legendary warrior king who was known as the Father of Europe, providing fascinating insight into his political success, battlefield strategy, foreign and domestic policies, friends, enemies and personal habits. For scholars of military science it is an essential bridge text linking the masterworks of ancient strategy like The Art of War and Commentarii de Bello Gallico with the future writings of Machiavelli, Clausewitz, et al. *Includes image gallery.

Fetchen Contrary to popular belief, the "Dark Age," (AD 476-c.1200) was "dark" not because of the alleged backward nature of the time, but rather because of the lack of historical sources from the period. This biography, written by Einhard, who was a friend of the most famous monarch from the Dark Age, sheds some much-needed light into the political and military history of the period. Written soon after the death of Charlemagne in 814, Einhard tells us of his rise to power, his military campaigns, his dealings with the scheming Byzantines, his coronation as Holy Roman Emperor, and his unruly daughters. Throughout the narrative, Einhard strives to portray his King and friend in the best possible light. I highly recommend this book to any student of Medieval history, as well as to those who might have an interest in European monarchy. It is informative, easy-reading, and a great primary source for those who study the history of the period.

Remarkable Biographical Work from the Ninth Century By Michael Wischmeyer Charlemagne's reign was a brief flash of light in the dark centuries that followed the collapse of the Roman empire. As king of the Franks, Charlemagne unified much of Western Europe - what today is northeastern Spain, all of France, and parts of Germany and Italy. He revived education and learning, repaired existing churches and built new ones, and helped strengthen the position of the Pope in Rome. In the year 800 Charlemagne was crowned Emperor Augustus, ruler of the new Roman empire. This new empire was short lived, but Charlemagne became legend. Einhard, a scholar in Charlemagne's court and author of this short biography, was faced with a difficult question: how does one write a balanced and honest biography of a revered king, a king that had become legendary in his own time?Einhard had few examples to follow. The religious biographies of saints were not entirely appropriate. He turned to a classical source, The Lives of the Caesars by the Roman historian Seutonius. Einhard devotes about half of his work to Charlemagne's extensive military campaigns, but his focus remains on Charlemagne the leader and Charlemagne the man, not on military tactics and strategy. The modern reader will find it helpful to read between the lines. Einhard obviously admired Charlemagne, and his criticisms are muted. Also, Einhard's writing reflects a world view very different from today. For example, Einhard in discussing the continual uprising of the Saxons says: he never allowed their faithless behavior to go unpunished, but either took the field against them in person, or sent his counts with an army to wreak vengeance and exact righteous satisfaction.Wreak vengeance? Exact righteous satisfaction? The editor's footnote explains that at the time of a revolt in 782 Charlemagne had 4,500 Saxons beheaded in one day at Verden. Similarly, after a formidable conspiracy in Germany was put down, "all the traitors were banished, some of them without mutilation, others after their eyes had been put out".Einhard provides many details of Charlemagne's character and private life. Charlemagne enjoyed the exhalations from natural hot springs. He often practiced swimming; few could surpass him in this sport. Einhard carefully describes the clothing worn by Charlemagne. He apparently disliked foreign costumes, and was most comfortable in the common dress of the Frankish people. He was temperate in eating, and especially drinking. He was particularly fond of roast meat prepared on a spit and disregarded medical advice to eat only boiled meat. He could speak Latin fluently. St. Augustine's The City of God was among his favorite books. He never developed proficiency at writing, although he practiced regularly during his later years.Einhard's biography was immensely popular and more than eighty manuscripts still exist today. My copy of The Life of Charlemagne was published by Ann Arbor Paperbacks, University of Michigan Press. The foreword by historian Sidney Painter was quite helpful in establishing the historical context. My copy includes a ninth century map of Europe, footnotes, and a genealogical table for the family of Charlemagne and Hildegard.

For those of you thinking that this book was only written so that Einhard could honor Charlemagne, please look again. At first glimse this book does seem to be a superficial accounting of the life and times of Charlemagne, however, it is only after you begin to peel back the layers that the truth comes out. Einhard's depiction of charlemagne humanizes the great ruler by balancing the brutal warrior persona with his private, loving father and friend, persona. It is important to note that Einhard's book would have been read before the court, so it was imperative that the content be pleasing to those in attendance. With that in mind as well as the fact that Einhard revered Charlemagne, he manages to shed light onto Charlemagne's character and it's not always flattering. This is a biography or hagiography of Charlemagne's character. Einhard depicts a man, Charlemagne, motivated by human desires, not unlike any one of us. He was guilty of wrath, lust, gluttony, and greed and gave the church huge sums of money to be exonerated from his sins. This book shows that Charlemagne loved the institution of the church, not necessarily the church itself, because it brought him wealth and power. Charlemagne wanted to unify the cultures around him, but only after he conquered the peoples and re-settled them away from their homeland did he accept them. He smoothed the edges. He only wanted cultures that had been 'watered down'. People didn't want to be near Charlemagne, he was militaristic, oppressive, and aggressive. In fact to quote from the book "Have the Frank for your friend, but not for your neighbor" (43). Einhard exposes many of Charlemagne's flaws in this work, so read it with a critical eye.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. dont buy it buy something different. By Christian this book really sucks, buy a different book. You will not even learn half of whats on the actual test . I bought Rapid EKG interpretation and passed my test the first time and i was done in 30 min. Buy a different book, the people we put this book together do not know anything about EKG, if you dont trust me look at the practice test, it has wrong answers. One question asks you whether the strip is a Sinus Rhythm or a Sinus Tach, its clear that the answer is sinus tach using the 300 method but the book calls the strip sinus rhythm. 80% of the book is complete useless. It also has about 25 pages of medication which is 1/4 of the book, and just to let u know, there are only about 2 or 3 question about medication, so if i was you i would not waste my time going thru 25 pages for 2 test question. Dont worry about medication for now.

A word that people hear all the time, it is mentioned in songs, poems, stories, when they talk about their heart problems (usually referred to love). But do people really know about the human heart? In this guide that has been made for the preparation on the CCT exam we will cover the topic of the heart. The location of the heart, in between what's located, the place where it sits and the bigger and smaller lung.Knowing what is the apex, and what is vena cava and inferior vena cava is very important for this test. Learn how to describe the human heart, the looks of it the size, and weight of this muscle. You should know that the heart might increase in weight and size with the years, but that would be more noticeable in men than in women. When I was getting ready for this test, I wanted to be able to study as much as possible, but I wasn’t able to carry my books and notes around with my everywhere I went! I found this study guide and quickly realized it was something I could easily take along with me. I was able to study between classes and everywhere else. I even took the guide to the exam with me to get in a few extra minutes of review right before the test started! If you look at the guide, it looks well used. I marked it up and wrote in the margins and so on and so forth. I wouldn't’ have really had to do anything to it because it was completely comprehensive. But it was a great tool and I used it to the fullest extent. I’ve found writing things down sometimes helps me remember them. So when I’d read something in the guide, sometimes I’d make a note in the margin and that would help me remember that item better. IT was nice to be able to study everything all in one booklet. And anywhere I wanted, no less!

PDF Ebook Panzer Operations: Germany's Panzer Group 3 During the Invasion of Russia, 1941, by Hermann Hoth

This book, originally published in German in 1956, has now been translated into English, unveiling a wealth of both experiences and analysis about Operation Barbarossa, perhaps the most important military campaign of the 20th century.Hermann Hoth led Germany’s 3rd Panzer Group in Army Group Center―in tandem with Guderian’s 2nd Group―during the invasion of the Soviet Union, and together those two daring panzer commanders achieved a series of astounding victories, encircling entire Russian armies at Minsk, Smolensk, and Vyazma, all the way up to the very gates of Moscow. This work begins with Hoth discussing the use of nuclear weapons in future conflicts. This cool-headed post-war reflection, from one of Nazi Germany’s top panzer commanders, is rare enough. But then Hoth dives into his exact command decisions during Barbarossa―still the largest continental offensive ever undertaken―to reveal new insights into how Germany could, and in his view should, have succeeded in the campaign. Hoth critically analyses the origin, development, and objective of the plan against Russia, and presents the situations confronted, the decisions taken, and the mistakes made by the army’s leadership, as the new form of mobile warfare startled not only the Soviets on the receiving end but the German leadership itself, which failed to provide support infrastructure for their panzer arm’s breakthroughs. Hoth sheds light on the decisive and ever-escalating struggle between Hitler and his military advisers on the question whether, after the Dnieper and the Dvina had been reached, to adhere to the original idea of capturing Moscow. Hitler’s momentous decision to divert forces to Kiev and the south only came in late August 1941. He then finally considers in detail whether the Germans, after obliterating the remaining Russian armies facing Army Group Center in Operation Typhoon, could still hope for the occupation of the Russian capital that fall.Hoth concludes his study with several lessons for the offensive use of armored formations in the future. His firsthand analysis, here published for the first time in English, will be vital reading for every student of World War II.REVIEWS Hoth's writing style is direct and to the point; yet it remains very readable and thought-provoking. He is a commander who cares very deeply about his soldiers and their well-being but also for the mentorship and development of his leaders... I would strongly recommend this book for any leader wanting to clearly understand what command (highlighted by bold, decisive action) entails in an operational context. The Military Reviewer

German Panzer Group 3's invasion of Russia June-Oct 1941 By William Garrison Jr. "Panzer Operations: Germany's Panzer Group 3 during the Invasion of Russia, 1941" by Gen. Hermann Hoth (April 2015), which was originally published in German in 1956. As the subtitle of this book states, the battlefield scope of this book focuses on Panzer Group 3 during its invasion of Russia between June-Oct. 1941, although the author does review the "Big Picture" of the overall invasion..Although this book totals 215 pages, 10% of the book is devoted to appendices & bibliography. The author devotes 6 pages to his thoughts regarding the viability of tanks during a possible nuclear war in Europe -- which really don't add much to this book. Fortunately, 16 pages are of nice campaign maps. The author spends several pages analyzing the differences between "operational" versus "strategic" goals versus "tactics" (p.28) and how such thoughts were contemplated by Clausewitz versus Scharnhorst, and how such thoughts influenced the German military mind during the 1870s, WWI, and Hitler. As the author noted: "This book does not purport to be a definitive account of the military history of the Russian campaign" (p.7) ... "In the first few months of the Russian campaign, [the author's] Panzer Group 3 was the middlemost of the three northern German panzer groups".The author noted: "The pros and cons of an attack against Russia are thoroughly described elsewhere" (p,39), but he does devote a couple of pages reviewing how the German campaigns against England (Operation Sealord), and in the Balkans, influenced Hitler's time-schedule in invading Russia (Operation Barbarossa).Hence, with all of the author's prior-to-battle analysis, his discussion regarding his actual invasion and initial battles inside Russia are reduced to barely 80 pages -- but the author's prior-to-battle reflection is still very useful in understanding some of the battle-preparation thoughts of Hitler's staff as they developed the Russia-invasion plans -- and how they debated how much initial emphasis should be devoted to destroying Russian military units before turning attention to capturing political targets (Moscow vs. Leningrad). As a graduate of the U.S. Army's "Command & General Staff College" myself, it was insightful that the author high-lighted some of the invasion problems: roads were more paved in northwestern Russia than in the south, different terrains (forests versus marshlands) constricted armour-column traffic routes, could bridges be secured before the Russians could destroy them?, where were Russian military units deployed?, how many Russian units were mech verses horse-drawn?, how soon would new and stronger Russian tanks replace weaker under-armed tanks?, how the lack of railroad lines impeded troop advancement?, etc.The author noted how German generals debated whether or not to allow panzer units to rapidly advance -- as slower-moving supporting units might have to be left behind and play a slow catch-up (p.73).No need here to recount how the author, Gen. Hoth, maneuvered his Panzer Group 3 during the invasion, except to note that he provided nice details as to how he conducted his maneuvers in advancing and encircling Russian units. He noted disputes between German military commanders, as how some Russian units escaped (temporarily) when Gen. Guderian decided to capture terrain heights to deprive them from the enemy (p.113). Gen. Hoth also discussed how campaigns changed (usually for the worse) as Hitler changed his mind as to how his units should be deployed within Russia -- even by mid-July (barely 30 days into the invasion). Besides discussing his own maneuvers, Gen. Hoth also describes how adjacent units were also affected by changes from Hitler's directives.Gen. Hoth limits his book to essentially operational issues, he doesn't comment upon whether or not any of his units assisted in the rounding up of Jews or punishment of captured Russian guerrilla-partisans.I highly recommend this very informative book.[A companion book regarding the harsh treatment of captured Jews and partisans during the 1941 invasion by the German XXXXIII Corps is: "A German General on the Eastern Front" by Johannnes Hurter -- being a limited history of German Gen. Gotthard Heinrici between 1941-42.]

10 of 10 people found the following review helpful. A competent and easy to read study By F. Carol Sabin “Panzer operations” is a very competent, candid and forthright discussion of the 3rd Panzer Group early battles in Operation Barbarossa seen from the eyes of his daring commander. The book is very clearly written and easy to read and it’s great to see that this book is available again.I thought fairly highly of this book (originally published in 1956!), because it allowed me to see the operational events of a highly decorated panzer commander that I knew so little about. Though preferring a little greater depth to these operations, this is still a respectable book and is still recommended. In chapter I (“Introduction”), the author begins his odyssey with explaining German war doctrine and the influence of the-then new weapon – nuclear bomb – over the operations of armored units. In the next chapter (“Background”, 28 pages) general Hoth introduces us to the origins of the operational plan “Barbarossa”. He describes how German general staff “was confronted with a task of the kind that it had not dealt with for 25 years” and shows relevant deployment orders, estimates, assessments of the terrain and political situation, etc.He then proceeds in the next chapters (3-9) to the major battles carried out by his Panzer Group and some adjacent units in the summer of 1941 – Minsk, Smolensk Vyazma, etc.In the “Conclusion” chapter the author tried, briefly, to explain the reasons for the failure of the campaign against Russia in 1941. Among the issues mentioned are the underestimation of the Russian political-strategic resistance, Hitler’s interference in the conduct of the operations and the difference between Hitler’s and Army war objectives. The author also concentrated on 13 theories and principles for the operational use of panzers related to the conditions of 1941.In the final chapter (“Epilogue”, written by Linden Lyons, the translator of the book) some interesting aspects of Hoth’s career after battle of Vyazma are provided. For the rest of the book, in 12 appendixes, the author showed a series of helpful documents (deployment orders, directives, assessments, etc). There were 16 maps at the beginning of the book that are helpful and added to the narrative. The maps are poorly located. The maps should have been placed only in the chapters that actually discuss the battle. As it is, when you are reading about a battle you have to flip back several pages to find the relevant map. There is a small gallery of 14 b&w photos included showing Hoth, Guderian, other German military leaders and panzers in action. No index is provided and an extensive notes Section closes out the book. Finally, in writing this book, the author relies on published books and unpublished manuscripts mentioned in a 3-page bibliography.I highly recommend this work to any student of WW II.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Professional By Ron Braithwaite This is a detailed account of the tactics, strategies, successes and failures of the early battles against Stalin's Soviet Union as told by Hermann Hoth, General and Commander of Panzer Group 3. The tale exudes the professionalism that pushed German armies so deep into Russia. It is also a scathing critique of Hitler's meddling with operations. Hoth implies, but doesn't state, that Hitler's diversion of German forces against industrial and economic targets, as opposed to early destruction of much of the Red Army concentrated to protect Moscow, was the reason for German defeat. At the same time, towards the end of the book, he suggests that historians might [as they have] argue that Hitler's most egregious error was his decision for a Second Front, by invading the vast expanses, and huge armies, of Soviet Russia.Lyon's epilogue, in which he describes Hoth's Nazi sympathies and beliefs in the dangers of Jewish Bolshevism, is likely true but seems out of place in a book on tactics and strategies. Lyon's study and opinions would have been best placed in an entirely separate monograph, perhaps referenced in Hoth's book.

Tear Away From The Pack (Book 1)

A Wonderful first book in the beautiful new Wolf Shifting Trilogy

The night Emma felt his stare; it was only the beginning, she never thought she would help them to find each other or that she would fall for both of them. They are different from everybody else but so similar to each other, and at the same time they are worlds apart. She was so focused on her own pleasure and connection with them that she never admitted there was something exceptional in the way they were. But she knew there was something about them that made them wild, intuitive and irresistible. Who are they? Where did they come from? All these questions, and no answers. A journey of passion, betrayal and carnal desire to finally find their origin at the end of this trilogy.

Definitely an excellent choice to read By Andrea Andrade I am not one for romance novels but this book was a relatively smooth read and very easy to get lost in because it's fun and easy. I like that it's not your average love story because it has more depth and complexity to it and it is definitely worth reading if you are interested in good plots and provocative detail. I truly hope that there is sequel to this because I would love to know what happens next.. Anyone who has read this book will probably tell you the same thing, "Who will the girl choose?!" All in all, good read that you will definitely get hooked on.

By vanessa sanmartin I got this book because I love paranormal romance and I was looking for a book to relax and read after a long days work. This is a great book and very well written. It has a excellent story line and left me guessing enough to continue turning the pages. I will be recommending this book to all my girl friend.ᐧ

More than I expected By Deborah I downloaded this book while it was free and after reading the synopsis I put it to one side to read when the other two books were out, since I've absolutely no patience cliffhangers drive me nuts so I find it works better for me to just wait, the only problem with that is impatience makes me want to read it anyway...I know catch 22 and this wasn't helped by the fact that every review I could find for this book gave 5 stars.Ok...so I've read it and I have to say it surprised me, even after all the 5 star reviews it's not at all what I expected.Emma is a very successful DJ and she loves what she does, music is her passion, she's twenty-eight, tall yet curvy with natural silver streaks in her hair which started to appear after her eighteenth birthday, after her initial 'freak out' she settled in and the silver became a part of her.Connor Hudson is a very successful manager but he has a special give which gives him the edge and while this gift has served him well it doesn't seem to work on Emma he also has the most amazing silver eyes.Duncan Brennan is also incredibly successful he's president of A&R at Grogan records and he also has the most unusual silver eyes...I mean really what are the odds.Silver seems to be the common link but what is the connection between these three characters and why have they now found each other.I really enjoyed this, it's a different read and like I said not at all what I expected but now comes the dreaded wait, just hope it's not too long because I'm curious where this is going.

*Includes pictures *Includes accounts of the Blackfeet written by contemporaries *Includes online resources and a bibliography for further reading *Includes a table of contents From the “Trail of Tears” to Wounded Knee and Little Bighorn, the narrative of American history is incomplete without the inclusion of the Native Americans that lived on the continent before European settlers arrived in the 16th and 17th centuries. Since the first contact between natives and settlers, tribes like the Sioux, Cherokee, and Navajo have both fascinated and perplexed outsiders with their history, language, and culture. In Charles River Editors’ Native American Tribes series, readers can get caught up to speed on the history and culture of North America’s most famous native tribes in the time it takes to finish a commute, while learning interesting facts long forgotten or never known. They call themselves “Niitsitapi” (“Original People”), but in the United States, they are known as the Blackfeet. In Canada, they are known by their more particular band names, one of which is Blackfoot, but regardless of the name, they are a tribe of Native American peoples (“First Nations” in Canada) who, until the modern time period, lived in small, decentralized bands and hunted the bison on the northern Great Plains. Stories vary, but the name “Blackfeet” or “Blackfoot,” applied to them by others, may have come originally from their practice of dying their moccasin soles black. That said, their use of an Algonquian language group may indicate that they were relatively recent newcomers to the region from somewhere in the Northeast. The territory of the Blackfeet, at its greatest extent, encompassed a vast area from the eastern Rocky Mountains of Alberta and Montana and extending several hundred miles out onto the Great Plains, around the upper reaches of the Saskatchewan River and its tributaries in Alberta and the upper reaches of the Missouri River and its tributaries in Montana. The area of the land most sacred to the Blackfeet is the Sweet Grass Hills, which are located just south of the Canadian border in the central part of Montana. These are a group of buttes forested with balsam firs rising several thousand feet above the surrounding plains and which can be seen for a considerable distance. This was also Napi’s favorite resting place in the mythology of the Blackfeet. Young Blackfeet went up into the Hills on their vision quests and, as their predecessors had done for several thousands of years, left inscriptions and petroglyphs on the surface of the tall sandstone cliffs. Many of the stories told by the Blackfeet take place there. Native American Tribes: The History and Culture of the Blackfeet and Blackfoot Confederacy comprehensively covers the history and legacy of one of the Great Plains’ most famous Native American groups. Along with pictures and a bibliography, you will learn about the Blackfeet like never before, in no time at all.

About the Author Patrick Delaforce served as a troop leader in Normandy with the Royal Horse Artillery of the 11th Armoured Division. Hitler's Wehrmacht blew him up with their mines in Holland, and he was again wounded by a rifle grenade on the banks of the River Elbe. He was with the first battle group into Bergen-Belsen concentration camp in April 1945, was twice mentioned in despatches, and was awarded the Bronze Cross of Orange-Nassau. 1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Impressions of the Most Influential & Evil Man of the 20th Century! By Mike O'Connor That most twisted of madmen, Adolf Hitler, continues to fascinate 60-odd years after he offed himself in a Berlin bunker. Dozens of biographies have gone into great detail charting the rags-to-riches-to-ruin life of AH, some running to 1,000 pages. British author - and WW II vet - Patrick Delaforce takes a different approach in ADOLF HITLER, THE CURIOUS AND MACABRE ANECDOTES, a 2012 Fonthill Media release.Delaforce's book offers up over 300 impressionistic, anecdotal snapshots from dozens of people who knew/liked/loved/worshipped/hated and worked under AH, coverage running from birth to death. Taken together, they furnish a fascinating, you-are-there glimpse of the transformation of the lowly Austrian misfit who transformed himself into the absolute head of the most evil empire on earth. At various stages, the blurbs show us an abused child; a lazy but willful teen who dominated his classmates; a second-rate artist whose success owed much to Jewish businessmen; a be-medalled Austrian corporal; an opportunistic, hate-filled political firebrand; a physically-unimpressive loner who mesmerizing eyes held even generals spellbound and so on. Depending on who was interacting with Hitler, he could come across as a charmer, a raving lunatic, a totally amoral loser or a messianic super-man.The book features over 300 vintage photographs of AH, various Nazi politicos and military men, ceremonies and rallies, war scenes, etc.Given the large cast of characters, the book should have included an index. In any case, Delaforce's book certainly isn't in the running for "longest AH biography ever;" it tops off at 288 pages. However, the mixture of accounts and viewpoints creates a multi-dimensional image of Der Fuhrer. Recommended.*****I suspect some - or all? - of the material in this book may have appeared in Delaforce's earlier volume THE HITLER FILES: THE ESSENTIAL FACTS published in 2008.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. its ok By Historybuff I chose to rate it a 3 only because I have already read many other books on the subject.I found the early chapters to have some interesting trivia insights, however as the book got later into the war, the interest level fell as most of the information seemed to be drawn from well-trod sources.if you have no information on the War or AH then you will probably enjoy the book more.

She is above his class. But she is not above wanting him for herself.

Leda is better than the lowly place she finds herself in. Born a princess and now trapped as a slave serving gladiators, she fights every day just to keep her head above water. Her petitions for freedom and a return to her home country are tireless—but as a princess, she has to remain pure, and her body untainted, if she is to return at all. The last thing she should do is fall for a gladiator. But that’s exactly what happens when arena warrior Conall saves her life from a would-be assassin. Conall is wrong for Leda in every way. He’s wild. He’s reckless. He’s utterly beneath her station. He’s also got a hard, ripped body forged by dozens of battles, a stare that makes her melt, and a love so fierce that it digs deep into the fibers of her soul. Their heat is undeniable, but Conall is dead-set on pursuing one too-dangerous fight after another. His passion will get him killed—but it’s also what draws Leda to him with her breaths hot and her undergarments totally soaked. When they join together, they risk everything. But if there’s one thing worth dying for, it’s the desire of a gladiator.

By mizztara71 I received a copy from the author in exchage for my honest opinion. This story proves that size really doesn't matter. Conall may be small in stature, but he has the heart and drive of a giant. I absolutely loved his reckless way of living, his fearlessness and his willingness to try and defy the odds even with his life being on the line.In the beginning, Leda kept her status of being a Princess from having any feelings for Conall. Once she saw him as an equal, the story really took off. It was refreshing reading about a man who had no problems with expressing his love and affection for the object of his desire. Before Leda, Conall had no desire to live. It was great seeing this proud man find something worth living and fighting for. She was outspoken and strong, everything that I look for in a heroine. The author did a wonderful job detailing the hard life of a gladiator and their treatment as slaves. I am a sucker for a HEA. It was great for these two, who lived such hard and demeaning lives as slaves to finally have their dreams realized. This was a perfect way to end the series and I look forward to reading more from this author.

One could read them as stand alones and they all have HEA's (which I sooo love) but if a person could read all three you should. Definitely recommend. Conall is the lowly gladiator. Although gladiators are highly prized, they have a very low class caste. Leda is the Armenian princess sold into slavery, ending up at the same ludus as Conall. Leda at first is very cognizant of their different social standings and tries to deny her attraction and love for this mighty fighter. This prejudice, assassins, pride, and of course the brutal arena fights are just some of what the two have to work through to end up together. Appreciate the history and terminology brought to life. Again, great read, look forward to more from this author.Received an ARC for an honest review.

By Do not publish name This story is the third of the Affairs of the Arena series by Ms. Pax and it is as good as the first two. This story revolves around Conall (a/k/a Pertinax in the arena) and Leda's love (Leda is a princess of Armenia pursued by an assassin, whom she "takes care of" when he abducts her) and she finally admitts to herself that Conall is her one and only love even though they are of different social classes. When Conall beats a huge warrior named Titan and Conall is badly injured in their battle Leda realizes she cannot live without his love. With part of the fortune she amassed from the assassin and her own money,Leda buys Conall's freedom and they leave Publius's ludus to start a happy life together. It was nice that the author wrote in an appearance in this book Conall's friends and former co-gladiators from the previous two books: Caius, Aeliana, Lucius and Gwenn as they make him an offer to buy his freedom so he can pursue happiness with Leda and get away from the arena and possibly death in a gladiator fight. Conall refuses and goes on to fight the Titan in the fight of his life. The happy ending in this story as well as the other two is something that will keep me reading this author's writings again. I love happy endings!

The hopes and dreams of the mountain man known as Shad Cain have been turned upside down by the mindless meanderings of fate. With nothing to hold him to his mountain cabin, he took his most prized possessions, his dog, his horse, his rifle, and his six-gun off on a holiday. He wanted only one thing, and that was to see the Pacific Ocean, but there were those who seemed determined to make sure his holiday was no picnic. Train robberies and a full scale range war only served to take his mind off what had been troubling him. While looking up an old friend, Cain finds several new friends. He may never see any of them again, but he will carry them with him for a lifetime.

Damn good tale of a traveling hero...unsung and humble By Amazon Customer Mildred Luker Bradshaw never misses on any story he tells...he scores with this one, too. If you like a good western...this one is for you. It well written, well paced and with developed characters...most of his books are about continuing adventures of a family of established characters from other novels. It is not a quick draw...gunslinger quick slick narrative. It is about using your brains more than brawn. The excerpt blurb in the description of this book is what it is about...a good read and well worth your time. Please remember, Shad is an old mountain man and his language and descriptions are in that mode. Enjoy.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Bonnie Hollier By bonnie hollier Cain is one of my favorite characters that Lou writes about. That is saying a lot because I like them all. This book has so much going on in it that it made me dizzy. Cain is fearless and strong, yet gentle and just. Throw in Lous' inimitable humor, and this is a book that will entertain you from beginning to exciting end!
