It is the year 9 BC, and the Roman Empire is the greatest power on Earth. But this is not Earth. This is the afterlife. Civil war rages between two hosts of angels – the Faithful and the Free – over who will rule the afterlife. The Free, led by the Archangel Lucifer, are on the verge of victory. The Faithful have only one chance: Aurelia, a young Roman priestess, who is the key to unifying the Powers of Creation. Unaware of her identity as the prophesied Heir of the Archangels, Aurelia is brought to Elysium, but is captured and forced under the wing of Azdiel, Lucifer’s most feared lieutenant. A handsome, cold, and ruthless angel, Azdiel leads Aurelia through war-torn Elysium and deep into the dark heart of Hades, there to find the imprisoned Archangels of the Faithful and change the fates of all. (Please note that this book was previously published under the title The Last Archangel Book 1: Faithful Amidst the Fallen.)

I enjoyed the world based on the Greek and Roman myths of Elysium and Hades, with the addition of angels something I was unsure of in the beginning but soon came to love as I followed Azdiel and Aurelia on their dangerous journey from Elysium into Hades. I didn't want to put this book down, and it ended on a real cliff-hanger that definitely left me wanting to read more.

Since London awaits each installment of his Sherlock Holmes stories with bated breath, Arthur Conan Doyle would seem to be a lucky man. But he also has a bit of a problem. His publisher George Lippincott, on a trip to Edinburgh, has turned up dead. And not merely dead - murdered in a lurid scene drawn from one of Doyle's as yet unpublished stories. When Doyle appeals to the Scotland Yard forensics team for help, Tom and Davy, both avid Sherlockians, jump at the chance, but the unit leader, Detective Trevor Welles, is not so sure. He finds Doyle and his brilliant fictional sleuth ludicrous and suspects the "murder" is little more than a publicity stunt staged by an arrogant author and his greedy publisher. It is only when Emma Kelly, another member of the team and the object of Trevor's affection, receives a valuable pearl from an anonymous source - the opening scene of The Sign of the Four - that Trevor agrees they must indeed take Scotland Yard to Scotland. Edinburgh is a city abuzz with a strange series of crimes involving gypsies, cobras, roman soldiers, poison darts, and any number of improbable events, all drawn from the pages of Doyle. As the team scrambles to contain the mayhem, they learn that their chief suspects, a duo of men who always seem to be close to the action, in fact represent another division of Scotland Yard, one of the force's first undercover units. These men, especially the infuriatingly suave Richard Wright, aren't afraid to bend the rules or pocket the occasional bribe, and, between his young assistants' admiration for Doyle and Emma's attraction to Wright, Trevor feels as if he is losing control over his team, if not his whole life. Can the killer outthink two groups of Scotland Yard detectives and Arthur Conan Doyle himself? The answer lies at the top of a waterfall, where it takes total darkness to bring the truth to light.

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful. Pygmies, Gypsies and Snakes, Oh My!! By C. Jones To Scotland with Arthur Conan Doyle in tow!!! Well, I have been eagerly awaiting this one for eons now as the author had a change in publisher (or distributer or something along that lines) and therefore, the publication was greatly delayed-- which was torturous as I knew that Arthur Conan Doyle was going to co-star in City of Stone and couldn't wait to see how Wright would integrate both the legendary author and his infamous characters. I enjoy the established characters on "the team" so much, but this time around the perspective shifts seemed to slow down the story... I think the more frequent (some very short) shifts jarred me out of the story, making it easier to put down. However, the "mystery" was a truly good one and the way Wright blended Doyle in and really brought his character to life was fascinating. And there were some twists which not only flipped the mystery on its back but the future of our forensics team as well. I am always amazed by the detail of the settings and the forensic procedures, as well as the banter between the characters and the increasingly complex dynamics of their relationships. I was satisfied with the conclusion of the case at hand but admit to being a bit disturbed/wary (and yet also intrigued) by Emma's change of direction at the end and what that will mean for the team. I only hope that the next installment will come to us more quickly! *Also, there were far more grammatical errors (also two names offered for a certain reptile)than I have noticed previously in Ms. Wright's usually impeccable writing-- hope the change in publisher/distributer has not cost her a good editor/proof reader. Still a more than worthy read though!

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Thank Heaven! By Amazon Customer Odd title for a review, I know, but as I read this wonderful novel, I kept hoping against hope that this would not be the final effort of Ms. Wright regarding her team of Victorian crime solvers and crime scene forensic investigators. Ms. Wright's ability to faultlessly interweave Sir A. C. Doyle and his marvelous creation Sherlock Holmes into a challenging murder mystery in a small Scottish town is spellbinding! 3 quarters of the way through, I was still guessing . . . and enjoying myself immensely. If this product isn't the best of the five, it is surely in the top two. And without giving any clues at all, by the end of this one, all I want, need . . . in fact beg for is number six! Did you hear me, Ms. Wright? Get thyself busy! I need number 6!Thank heaven (see my title), I'm sure there will be a number six . . . there's got to be!

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Greatly anticipated! By Norma Meligonis This is the fifth in the series of full length books allowing 1890's Scotland Yard detectives and eclectic civilian sleuths to come together to solve another murder mystery. This time in Edinburgh. Firstly I was thrilled to hear Kim Wright has finally released her latest mystery especially with Sherlock Holmes' author Arthur Conan Doyle as a collaborator. It was a pleasure to be reunited with the Thursday Night Murder Mystery Club as they solve how Doyle's publisher died with no visible wounds along with other bizarre crimes involving blood angels on walls, gypsies, cobras and poison darts.

"There’s not a lot a guy won’t tell you when you bat your eyelids at him, bite on your lower lip and ... just... squeeze."

I never set out to be bad, but sometimes... well, sometimes it's so hard to say no.I've often talked with my husband about me sleeping with other men. It turns him on, and that turns me on. But I'd never converted that fantasy into reality. Not until last night...Last night I hooked up with my nearly man, Bradley. Way back we'd kissed, we'd flirted, but we'd never gone beyond that. But last night? Last night it all became very real...An erotic romance about an open and loving relationship, featuring cuckoldry, exploration and the rekindling of old flames.(The stories in the Confessions of a BBW Hotwife series are standalones, and can be read in any order.)

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Steamy! By Diana Lovelace The set-up is simple: loving couple get talking about their fantasies and then one of those fantasies might just come true. Husband Jason likes the thought of his wife Lucy going with other people, but when Lucy, away at a conference, is faced with an opportunity to hook up with the man she could easily have fallen for a few years back, she has to decide just how far to take things. The scenario is all-too believable, the characters engaging, and Somerton's writing draws you deeper and deeper into a deliciously steamy tale. The action in this story is hot, but there's enough of a back-story to suggest this is a series that will build and build. Sadie Somerton was a new writer to me, but I'll definitely be looking for more in this series.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. An alternative lifestyle.... By Annony Mouse What kind of a guy wants his wife to go off with other men? Well Jason does, for a start....Most guys would be too jealous to let that happen but Sadie Somerton does a good job convincing you that Jason gets off on this kind of thing just as much as his wife Lucy does. And once you start to believe everything else falls into place.A sexy story about a couple leading an alternative lifestyle. Still not entirely convinced most people could live like that, but I'll probably look for the next book in this series to see where it goes.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Loving and Open By Clarissa This is the story of a couple who are open to just about anything - or at least Lucy is ;) This is her first venture into being a hotwife, prompted by her husband who just wants her to be happy, whatever that takes. I particularly liked the way the author balanced the couple's loving and open relationship with some really hot scenes. Loved it!

In one of the darkest times of Britain's post-Arthurian history, seven priestess sisters left Avalon on a sacred mission to do their part to bring peace and safety to the Goddess worshiping people of their country. Each sister has their own royal target to engage and in their own special way, walk the path The Goddess has laid before them to protect Her people. In this volume, weapons and battle aficionado Aster goes to Hadrian's Wall to intercept King Urien and his sons who are waging war against the brutal Saxon warlord Aethelfrith. Aethelfrith has cut a bloody and burning swath through Britain and even Saxons are shamed by his vicious, brutal attacks. After months of battle, Aster is sent on a very special mission and that is where her real story begins. In an epic story of love, loss, victory, and compromise, Aster embarks on a high adventure to fulfill the task laid upon her. In the process, she meets a vibrant cast of characters who challenge her beliefs about the people she was taught were her enemies. Return to Avalon...you will be glad you did.

Praise for The Daughters of Avalon from Amazon readers:

Rasbold has a gem here. The book is simple in structure, yet complicated in feel. She makes you fall in love with the characters very quickly, and you can almost feel their pain, smell the flowers, and feel the wind on your face. She draws you in, leaving you wanting for more at the end of the book. I didn't just READ this book, I DEVOURED it! Being of Welsh ancestry, and now a long ago Croned Priestess and quite familar with much of what is involved in the walking of this path, I can easily recommend adding this delightful book to your reading list. You will not be disappointed. If you are a fan of Avalon, Arthur, Excaliber, Merlin..then this is the book for you. A mix of fairy tale, romance, a court intrigue! Ms. Rasbold you made me a happy reader, please keep 'em coming. One of the best books I have read in a long time I highly recommend this book as I was swept away from beginning to end. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!! Katrina Rasbold is a masterful storyteller and I felt like I was in Avalon. If you loved The Mists of Avalon, buy this one. I'm excited to read the next one to see what happens next.

1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. Excellent book..third in a series. By Arachne Truly enjoying reading this authors books; this is the third book in what I hope will be several more in the series. I admit, I was expecting this to be yet another disappointing book about the times of Avalon, the Arthurian legend, done and redone to the point that I just have to close the book and welp; kind of inspires me to get to writing! But Katrina Rasbold? Is excellent. This book is probably my favorite; so many twists, some dark moments, but also a sense of humor and wit. I would love to sit down and visit with this author; we'd have much to discuss, and share many common interests it seems. Keep 'em coming Katrina; I cant wait till you finish the next one, and the next. If you're into the stories/legends and HER-story of the times of Goddess/Earth Mother times before such things became almost as lost as Avalon itself; you wont be disappointed.

Having read Oracles of Celestine Light, was really excited to find out he had another book, and that was what had prompted me to get it and read it. The book reads like an adventure. Having read and familiarized myself with Oracles of Celestine Light; this story picks up with Lazarus, who is acquainted with Yeshua of Nazareth through his sister Miriam. The book runs parallel to Oracles of Celestine Light and is told primarily through Lazarus' own experiences. We travel with Lazarus through the Celestine Realm, where he meets Bityah, his grandfather, and back to Earth, all the way to the Fifth Kingdom. Be prepared for a surprise at the end! A very great read, awesome story that kept me glued to it the entire time. Hard to put down!

By Sajlixquel Very touching book.If you open your heart, and switch off all your ordinary world, when reading the book you will see all story in its fullness, colours and deepness, sometimes finishing with the eyes full of tears by emotion and deep understanding. It is necessary to leave all preconceptions in front of the "door" and enter barefoot and with humility to be witness of these outstanding events.Highly recommended.

Summer 1942. Leningrad, Russia's premier city after Moscow, has been besieged by German and Finnish troops for weeks in a stalemate that will eventually last 900 gruelling days. Neither commander will back down. Stalin will defend it to the last; Hitler will fight to the last to gain it. Now Hitler personally prepares a daring and ambitious plan. The city is surrounded save for a narrow corridor based on Lake Ladoga. There the Russians, not expecting a German armoured attack in the snow that's soon to come, have reduced their forces to three infantry divisions. Aware of this, Hitler decides to send in his elite "Wotan". It will use Finland as its base, passing secretly through the immense forests of the area, and take the defenders of Lake Ladoga by complete surprise. Or at least, that's the plan. The war — a battle of the Titans — has become a personal matter between Hitler and Stalin, and Wotan will undergo tremendous suffering and losses to make Hitler's dream come true. Operation Leningrad is an SS Wotan novel, set in 1942. Leo Kessler is the pseudonym of prolific WW2 author and historian Charles Whiting. Whiting uses his deep knowledge of the Second World War as the basis of the Kessler novels. In this epic, readers can see likenesses to real world events. Over three million Whiting books have been sold worldwide. If you've enjoyed Sven Hassel or Eric Meyer, sample some tongue-in-cheek war action courtesy of Leo Kessler.

This was one of the most beautiful love stories I have ever read. The way the author put you in the mind Iof each character as the story unfolded made me feel oileverything they were going through. It was different and unique from anything I have ever read. I have read all of Maggie Walsh's book and I know she loves twists and turns, and loves to make the reader think. She didn't disappoint in this one. I absolutely fell in love with Sky and Ghost. They are such well written characters. The whole story building was fantastic. So well written. I could go on and on about this book. I really is a MUST LEAD. The Beast Within is definitely on my favorite list and will remain there. I just finished reading it and I want to start it over again right now. And the song choices that Maggie put in the book made it a whole new experience. I had to get the songs and listen to them where they were in the book and they were just perfect. BRAVO! Maggie Walsh, BRAVO!

I really loved this book. It was so full of all kinds of emotions and so well written that I read it almost nonstop until I finished it. I could not put it down. I was totally immersed in this story. It was so beautiful and so filled with everything from love, passion, anger, pain, betrayal, and finally forgiveness. I laughed, cried (more than a few times, too), held my breath, gasped, got angry, cried some more, and finally jumped for joy. Oh, and a few surprises along the way.The story was well written and I loved all the main characters (except for Lee, he was a piece of work). Sky and Ghost were awesome and I really enjoyed their journey to finally get their HEA. There is an epilogue at the end of the story that was really sweet and so beautiful, (more tears) and it really wrapped up the end of the book very nicely. Well done.I usually read mm stories that are more on the erotic side, with lots of hot man love and less of a story. This book was more of a passionate love story, so it has a lot of story and not a whole lot of sex going on, which was fine in this case, because it worked with this book. Don't me wrong, it does have more than a few love scenes, but not until later in the book and they are very passionate, sexy and so full of love. They were so well written and it fit the story well.I highly recommend this book to anyone who loves a great love story and a wonderful path to finding your sole mate, even if the road is hard and filled pain, regret, sorrow, and a few surprises along the way, it will be worth it in the end. Trust me.Thank you Maggie Walsh for a love story I will never forget.

I chuckled and sighed. I laughed some more and cried happy tears. This story crosses all relationship boundaries. So real. So full of true life relationship situations. Maggie Walsh did such a magnificent job of writing Mitch's and Sky's story that I want to say she wrote it with fine strokes of a pen with passion found in Shakespeare. Realistically though, she surely used a keyboard. Thus less Shakespearean and more modern day, though with the same brilliance. Thank you Maggie Walsh for sharing your passion for true love and brilliance with your readers..

Needless, to say, I did not pass it. This book is about 75% full of helpful tips such as, "get a good nights rest before the test", "try and ween out answers that are obviously incorrect so you can have a better chance of guessing a correct answer" and other obvious test taking techniques. It seems like the company uses the same format for all test books and then sticks in some related subject matter to "help" you study for the test. There are only about 25 pages of actual payroll information in here. Furthermore, most of the information is outdated (considering payroll information changes every year) and it includes numerous typo's, grammatical and formatting errors. All in all, this is a cheap alternative to some real study material. I suggest looking else where.

It’s written by experts who know this game. And the insightful information on test taking strategies is super helpful. They actually show you ways to take the test to your advantage. Let’s face it: the only way to get through this test is to be well prepared by studying effectively. That’s what this one book will do for you. And once you’ve gone through all the comprehensive materials, you can take the practice tests and see how ready you really are. It’s so convenient and just a great way to study for this test.

Norman Floyd McGowin Jr., author of The Forest and the Trees: A Memoir of a Man, a Family, and a Company, was born into a prosperous family whose W. T. Smith Lumber Company dominated the small town of Chapman in Butler County in south Alabama. Family members achieved distinction in business, politics, the arts, and society. Floyd grew up, as he put it, during "periods of our region's and country's history that have encompassed momentous social, political, economic, and technological change. More took place in the last two-thirds of the 20th century along these lines than probably during any comparable period. My life has been full and interesting, and I have been privileged to know a lot of people and be involved in situations that illustrate change in both the physical aspects of life as well as the values that affect it." Thus while in that "era of my life between active employment and impotent geezerhood, where I see things with more clarity and truth than previously," he decided to write a memoir so that his grandson Peter and other young people "might better understand what is different and what is the same with regard to the past." His story unfolds in three parts: family, early education, and surroundings; Yale University and the Marine Corps; and his formative years in business. "It is my hope that this book will pay adequate tribute to those people and times that have formed mine," he wrote.

Read Ebook The Last Kingdom (Saxon Tales Book 1), by Bernard Cornwell

The first installment of Bernard Cornwell’s bestselling series chronicling the epic saga of the making of England, “like Game of Thrones, but real” (The Observer, London)—the basis for The Last Kingdom, the hit BBC America television series.

This is the exciting—yet little known—story of the making of England in the 9th and 10th centuries, the years in which King Alfred the Great, his son and grandson defeated the Danish Vikings who had invaded and occupied three of England’s four kingdoms.

The story is seen through the eyes of Uhtred, a dispossessed nobleman, who is captured as a child by the Danes and then raised by them so that, by the time the Northmen begin their assault on Wessex (Alfred’s kingdom and the last territory in English hands) Uhtred almost thinks of himself as a Dane. He certainly has no love for Alfred, whom he considers a pious weakling and no match for Viking savagery, yet when Alfred unexpectedly defeats the Danes and the Danes themselves turn on Uhtred, he is finally forced to choose sides. By now he is a young man, in love, trained to fight and ready to take his place in the dreaded shield wall. Above all, though, he wishes to recover his father’s land, the enchanting fort of Bebbanburg by the wild northern sea.

This thrilling adventure—based on existing records of Bernard Cornwell’s ancestors—depicts a time when law and order were ripped violently apart by a pagan assault on Christian England, an assault that came very close to destroying England.

The Last Kingdom (Saxon Tales Book 1), by Bernard Cornwell

From Publishers Weekly Bestseller Cornwell leaps back a millennium from his Richard Sharpe series to tell of the consolidation of England in the late ninth century and the role played by a young (fictional) warrior-in-training who's at the center of the war between Christian Englishmen and the pagan Danes. (Most of the other principal characters—Ubba, Guthrum, Ivar the Boneless and the like—are real historical figures.) Young Uhtred, who's English, falls under the control of Viking über-warrior Ragnar the Fearless when the Dane wipes out Uhtred's Northumberland family. Cornwell liberally feeds readers history and nuggets of battle data and customs, with Uhtred's first-person wonderment spinning all into a colorful journey of (self-)discovery. In a series of episodes, Ragnar conquers three of England's four kingdoms. The juiciest segment has King Edmund of East Anglia rebuking the Viking pagans and demanding that they convert to Christianity if they intend to remain in England. After Edmund cites the example of St. Sebastian, the Danes oblige him by turning him into a latter-day Sebastian and sending him off to heaven. Uhtred's affection for Ragnar as a surrogate father grows, and he surpasses the conqueror's blood sons in valor. When father and adopted son arrive at the fourth and last kingdom, however, the Danes meet unexpected resistance and Uhtred faces personal and familial challenges, as well as a crisis of national allegiance. This is a solid adventure by a crackling good storyteller. Copyright © Reed Business Information, a division of Reed Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.

From Booklist An acknowledged master of rousing battlefield fiction as evidenced by his crackling Richard Sharpe series, Cornwell also deserves praise for his mesmerizing narrative finesse and his authentic historical detailing. Here he introduces a new multivolume saga set in medieval England prior to the unification of the four Anglo-Saxon kingdoms of Northumbria, East Anglia, Mercia, and Wessex. Weakened by civil war, Northumbria is invaded by the fearless Danes, and Uhtred, the rightful heir to the earldom of Bebbanburg, is captured by the enemy. Raised as a Viking warrior by Ragnar the Terrible, his beloved surrogate father, Uhtred is still torn by an innate desire to reclaim his birthright. Fighting as a Dane but realizing that his ultimate destiny lies along another path, he seizes the opportunity to serve Alfred, king of Wessex, after Ragnar is horribly betrayed and murdered by Kjartan, a fellow Dane. Ever watchful and ever practical, Uhtred awaits his chance to settle the blood feud with Kjartan and to seize Bebbanburg from his treacherous uncle. Leaving his hero suspended on the threshold of realizing his desires, Cornwell masterfully sets up his audience for the second volume in this irresistible epic adventure. Uhtred, the son of an Earl becomes an orphan at ten and is captured and adopted by Ragnar the Dane. He is taught the Viking ways and Ragnar becomes more a father to him than his own father ever was. He loves the unrestricted, impious ways of the Danes and learns to become a formidable warrior.King Alfred, (later known as "The Great") is portrayed as an over pious but clever King of Essex. While Alfred is not a well-liked King, he is an intelligent one and soon comes to bind Uhtred to his cause against the Danes. The brutally descriptive battle scenes are exciting and repellant at the same time. Battles and wars are not described here as glorious and heroic circumstances but as what they really were, brutal, bloody, and often times fatal. This title was an excellent read and I just couldn't put it down many times at night. I've read it until the wee hours of the morning. I believe this is the best BC title I have ever read to date, even though I haven't read any of the Sharpe's novels (that era and place settings are not of interest to me). I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in early English (Saxon) history and/or Alfred the Great (and in the upcoming series, his descendants).

This is my favorite so far. It is similar to the King Arthur books but with less of the mysticism and magic. The hero is a spunky boy who amuses a Viking chief during a battle and is adopted; the Norse life proves to be more suited to his taste and he grows up as a Dane. However, some old business brings him back to the English side. I won't tell more but any lover of historical fiction will find it hard to put this book down.

Cornwell is a master of the historical novel By Jerry Saperstein Just a few moments ago, I was writing a review of one of Cornwell's American Civil War novels. Now I am writing a review of this Cornwell novel about 9th Century England. That's how good a historical novelist Cornwell is: the era doesn't matter. Cornwell weaves fact and fiction together seamlessly, believably and in a way sure to engage the reader's interest. The year is 866 A.D. The island is not yet united and the Danes raid and conquer at will. Cornwell's device is Uhtred, the 10 year old son of a minor chieftain, who is taken by the Danes, raised in the Viking ways of war and accepted as a Viking warrior. A priest becomes the medium through which the boy grows into a man and meets Alfred, the King who will take the first major steps in uniting England. Cornwell's story is well plotted, his characters are delightfully rich and his history both interesting and fascinating. A wonderful read.Jerry

It was okay, as long as you are able to ignore certain inconsistencies. But I was very disappointed in his character development. The only two characters that he bothered to actually delve into were Lady Janet and Mercy Merrick. Everyone else behaved like a caricature of whatever part of society they represented. Grace Roseberry's character was slightly fleshed out in the beginning, but instead of further fleshing her out when he had the opportunity, Collins turned her into a vile woman who apparently had forgotten about the hardships she spoke of in first chapter.Put plainly, this novel requires a great suspension of disbelief. Part of the plot just don't add up. In the beginning, it is discovered that a woman who has stopped breathing for a very long time can be revived. Though her physical health suffers, she's as mentally acute as before. That is downright impossible, to go half an hour without oxygen and suffer no brain damage. Also, he had one character writing another character, but how he could have ever obtained her address or she his is impossible to fathom. They met once, contentiously, then she left the country almost immediately. There was no way he could have even known what country she had gone to. Little things like that bother me, but maybe you can suspend your disbelief better. It might be because Collins couldn't make me like the main character that I'm finding all these reasons to pick the plot apart, but Collins has written better, by far. But, hey, it's free, so take your chances on whether you'll like it.

OK, it's not much of a spoiler to say that she does take the chance.... and that her deceit eventually catches up with her. I thought Collins did a fine character study here and his sympathetic portrayal of the heroine, in contrast to the "lady", was probably controversial at the time this novel was written. The writing and plot construction are good except for a long digression near the end in which the heroine recounts the entire sad story of her childhood and life before the opening of the novel. Recommended.

It's about a young woman named Mercy who assumes the identity of a war-victim in order to make a new start on a troubled and unhappy life. In a time where a good written character is everything, Mercy is able to obtain a job as a companion to a kind old lady by using the dead woman's papers. But is the woman dead? Mercy soon discovers her new start on life may turn into a disaster of broken trust and broken hearts.

I really, really enjoyed and I thought it was well written and fast-paced. I love how the author weaves together multiple plot lines, splits them apart, then puts them back together again. The love triangle between Aurelia, Azdiel, and Luveya is so cool, it’s my favourite part of the story! I hope the next book comes out soon.

In this second book of the Rift series, twelve-year old Texas witch Emma Bowen and her leopard sized calico cat, Little Bit (Emma’s Familiar), learn more practical magic to help prepare for the Bad Thing that is predicted to attack the Bowen Family when Emma is sixteen. After being teleported to Spain by accident, Emma and Little Bit cross Europe into Syria, accompanied by Emma’s magically rejuvenated grandfather, a supernatural being related to Big Foot, and an American Army witch. Along the way, Emma and Little Bit learn advanced magic, explore other cultures, adopt a supernatural Blue Wolf and a tiny fennec fox, help kill a rock demon, foil a kidnapping attempt by an opium smuggler, and witness the destruction of a Major Demon. They do all this without the direct advice and help of Emma’s Grandma, and in the process, gain confidence, skill, and some magical tattoos. This book has a bit more rough language than the first one (Emma’s Gift), and some gruesome scenes. It is set in the 1960’s but deals with modern issues of racism, women’s rights, transgendered people, religion and ethics.

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. An Outstanding Fantasy Novel By A.C. Jerroll Not many writers can create a believable world where magical characters walk about. Gail Fail not only can, but she does it better than nearly any other writer, and she builds her world while the Gifted characters are busy with their lives. As the young narrator Emma prepares for the Bad Thing looming in her future, she aids in foiling kidnappers and magical drug dealers, watches (and helps) a powerful witch kill several nasty demons, and adds a blue wolf and an amazing little fox to her family (her pack, according to the fox). Though she is only 13, she is already accomplished in several modes of magic and shows promise of becoming a powerful figure in a world that could sorely use a strong person with a determination to help others. This novel is book two in a trilogy; the first one is the tale of Emma at age 8 discovering ghosts in her family's new home, some of whom bite and scratch and terrify her. It isn't necessary to read the first in the trilogy in order to enjoy book 2. But if you missed the first one, you will no doubt want to read the first because the author is so good at unfolding plot and presenting interesting characters. I have barely begun book 3 in the series and can already tell it will be another fun read.

She is normal, happy, and willing to work hard to train to be the best witch she can. Her extended family are good people who want the best for all the children. Due to a ritual gone badly 12 year old Emma and her familiar end up half way around the world. The story is of her adventures and who the family sends to get her. The teens are not spoiled emo pains which is deliteful.
