About the Author Tom Miller moved to New York City in 1979 from Dayton, Ohio, bringing with him a passion for buildings. He currently holds the rank of deputy inspector within the NYPD’s Auxiliary Police Force. In 2009 he started a blog, Daytonian in Manhattan, which has now reviewed over a thousand buildings, statues, and other points of interest.

I have loved Tom's blog "Daytonian in New York" ever since I discovered it a few years ago. He has the most wonderful write-ups and fabulous photos of probably thousands of buildings around Manhattan, mostly all residential. Anyone who says, NYC is all built up and modernized and nothing of old NY is left any more is .... WRONG. Just go to the blog and sample the gems he writes about , a new one every day (except Sunday.) Amazing work. Then you will be inspired to BUY this book.The book is divided into sections, by neighborhood and covers a lot of ground. Each entry tells when the building was built and details about its creation. Then the writing goes on to explore ANY tidbit, the juicier the better, connected with the place. Some houses have a riches-to-rags story going from high society dinners and fancy weddings, to a second life as a boarding house or apartments. Then the stories are often fantastic, burglars, suicides, clever criminals, dumb suitors, fires, bad renovations ... anything that happened at that address. It's all so fascinating and well written. The accompanying photos are a real treat and give details of the structure you could never see by just glancing at the building. They really are quite surprising in the care they are executed with. And, like I said, every day a new one.Ok, so that was about the blog, but the book is a really nice reproduction of (only) 50 of the pieces from it. It fits nicely in your hand, the photos are well done and the book is clearly organized. If you like NYC history, current architecture (these are buildings that STILL exist - well, mostly, some are sadly labelled 'lost') interesting stories and excellent photography you will like this book!

Barnes I stumbled on this book quite by accident after seeing mention of a blog that sounded interesting--"Daytonian in Manhattan." Ilive in the South but find architecture anywhere in this country fascinating, and this book showcases New York architecture to a fare-the-well.The book is divided into neighborhoods but no matter----it is one of those books one can pick up and read several chaptersabout the architecture and the wonderful backstories behind the buildings----put the book down and then pick it up when one hasa yen for more architecture.It is amazing that one person, the author Tom Miller, could have amassed all this wonderful history of NY, and might I add that the photography is outstanding also. Even though the theme is NY architecture, believe me this book would "play in Peoria" or anyother city for those who love historic buildings.

There are a few takeaways:First, life for kids who were around 5 years old in1939 had a much different life that kids today,war or no war. I'm one of them. Like the author, weran loose all the time with no concern where or howfrom Mom just so we showed up at dinner time.However little boys were definitelymore adventurous than little girls like me. Anyone whoever raised kids will love this and be enthralled bythe differences in kiddiehood then and now.The secondgroup of people who will enjoy this book are history buffs,especially WWII buffs, as the story runs through the majorbattles of WWII, some combination of serious research anda fabulous memory. A great read, and I couldn't putit down. My family moved to Montclair NJ after the war andI became a classmate of the author, and knew himas one of a group of four pesky boys thatgave the Physics teacher a hard time! Lookingforward to the next book by this author and I look forward toreading what teenagerhood was like in the fifties with thesame panache that he has explored kiddiehood in the 40's.

Suffice to say, as I neared the books ending, I was not yet ready to exit this vehicle that was giving me such a pleasant ride. The information on reading the questions carefully may seem obvious but it is really beneficial. Other strategies such as identifying switchbacks words and prefixes are good to know as well.

I have taken half of one of the exams in the practice book and tried to do the flashcards. I am definitely learning from the information. I bought these books for taking the test next year and I was concerned about not being able to reread them and gain any more info. After working with them, I am confident I can use the skills and info prior to the test I order to be successful. I am so glad I found these!! Thank you!!

A rollercoaster ride of emotions and betrayals… By ZR1000 This is the third volume of the Silk serial which should be read in order.Ian returns from Rome after five weeks of research and falling back into old patterns. Things get worse when he sees the latest headlines regarding the actress that he loves. She has moved on or so he thinks not questioning the veracity of what is printed and he has nothing left but pain that he wants to stop. There’s only one way that he knows to do so. And that is how Kristina finds him. It breaks her heart but she stands by him and finds the strength to get him the help that she’s not equipped to give him. In her support and their love he finds the strength to go through what he must.The knocks just keep coming. When I think they have a chance at a new start something else happens to derail our couple. I was impressed with how Kristina handled Ian’s fall and then I was very disappointed in her. She was strong enough to do what had to be done to help Ian but then she betrays him while he’s in rehab and more than once. I’m not sure how I feel about that, as a character she has lost this reader’s respect and understanding. Where was the strength that she found to help the man that she swears she loves? Why couldn’t she stay true to him? It will be interesting to see if the author can redeem her for me. Can Ian survive the latest betrayals without falling into the abyss again? I hope so.

Stroker This story just keeps ripping my heart out but I'm having a much better time dealing with it....just when you think things are falling into place Ian & Kristina's lives are torn apart again! Their love for one another is so intense but so is the addiction and then there are the lies! Will their love survive?

Disappointing By luvs2read I should say up front that I'm not a big fan of polyamorous but I loved "Special Delivery" and couldn't wait for Randy to get his HEA. This book is really about the foursome of Randy, Sam and Mitch and the new guy in Randy's life, Ethan. There is a great plot involving high stakes poker and an old style casino. But Mitch is sent away early in the piece and much of the book explores in depth the love between Randy and Sam rather than Randy and Ethan. I found myself annoyed whenever Sam inserted himself into Randy and Ethan's romance. Sam came across as whiny and self obsessed which is a shame cause I loved him in Special Delivery. Randy's statement early in the story that he loved Ethan was too sudden and seemed out of keeping with Randy's character (and his constant need to get into Sam's pants!) at that point. I give the book 2 stars to reflect my disappointment in the weak romance (because that's why I read these books after all). But the author writes very well and the underlying casino plot is probably worth 3 stars. Those who like reading menage stories will probably love this book.

I would read Special Delivery first, to help understand the dynamics going on. It was nice catching up with Mitch and Sam again, but this is definitely Randy's book.Randy is a smart ass and a player but he is not cruel, and loves the game of poker and gambling in general. So when he sees Ethan Ellison doing it all wrong, he feels compelled to step in. Little does he know how badly Ethan needs him and how low he has sunk. But they catch each other in Las Vegas magic, and learn about cards and fate and love. There were plot points that made no sense (Crabtree and the casino deal?!?) but it didn't matter, you enter into Heidi Cullinan's world and you are happy to be t here. It's intense and sexual and romantic and committed and all about finding the safe space in a dangerous world. I enjoyed it and rate it a keeper and will reread.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Character driven romance that hits all of the right marks By Houston Double Blind is the sequel to Heidi Cullinan's much adored Special Delivery. It took me three months to pick up Double Blind after finishing Special Delivery. The delay was in part because I thought Special Delivery was good, but it didn't knock my socks off; and in part because the cover is horrible, and the sypnopsis is relatively vague. Cullinan would do herself a huge favor fixing both of those; neither comes close to doing the book justice.Special Delivery and Double Blind contain some of the same characters, but it is easily possible to follow Double Blind without having read Special Delivery, and in fact, due to the notable differences between the two, I would recommend considering them as two separate books, rather than as a series. Those readers that are looking for a sequel similar in tone, style, and focus are likely to be disappointed.Both books are incredibly character driven, however Special Delivery, Sam and Mitch's romance, explores character development through the lens of exploration and acceptance of sexuality. Double Blind on the other hand uses poker as a metaphor to explore and develop characters. Although it does include some of the same sexual practices (menange and more, light BDSM, etc.), sexual exploration and acceptance are a relaitvely minor part of the story. (In fact, Double Blind reminded me strongly of Jennifer Crusie's Faking It, in both tone and plot device, with poker taking the place of confidence games.)Double Blind is the story of Randy Jensen (from Special Delivery) and Ethan Ellison. Sam and Mitch from Special Delivery are secondary characters, and although there is some further development of their characters and relationship, their presence serves primarily to help develop Randy and Ethan's characters and relationship. For me, going along for the ride while the characters explored and developed was a can't-put-it-down read. Randy and Ethan are both far from perfect, abeit in quite different ways. Randy needs to figure out how to grow up, and open himself to love, and Ethan needs to conquer depression and heartbreak as he figures out in the most basic sense who he is. As the story progresses they don't suddenly have all the answers, and there are the highest of highs and the lowest of lows along the way, but it is a pleasure to take the trip with them. And although they still don't have all, or even most, of the answers at the end, their understanding that they've got each other and they can keep figuring it out together makes for a far more satisfying ending.At first glance Randy seems quite different than he was in Special Delivery. However that is because in that book his character was most notable when he is first introduced to Sam. Once the three settle in together, and Randy accepts Sam, his character seems to change, but at the same time fades into the background, because Special Delivery is not his story. We're given another glimpse of him at the end of Special Delivery when he calls Sam, and his character at that point is much more consistent with what I think Cullinan meant to develop over the course of their weekend together, and what we see here in Double Blind.In various discussions I have heard some complains about the main plot. I must admit that the main story strains credibility a bit, but I actually found it far more believable than the last three romances I read involving an openly gay cowboy in the middle of OK; a billionaire and a waiter; and a cop and a burglar. Just as/more importantly, I enjoyed it quite a bit, and it served exactly its purpose- moving the plot along and acting as a vehicle for character development.Double Blind is one of the best books I've read this year, and I highly recommend it.1/19 Note- While discussing the book with a friend, she commented that at first glance Randy seems to be quite a different character than he was in Special Delivery. Although I think that's true to a certain degree, I think it's primarily because he was mostly out of focus in Special Delivery. In that book his character was most notable when he is first introduced to Sam. Once Randy accepts Sam, and Mitch forgives Randy, Randy's character changes to something far more similar to what he is in Double Blind. But at the same time, he fades into the background because Special Delivery is not his story. We're given another glimpse of him at the end of Special Delivery when he calls Sam, and at that point the changes are even more obvious.

Set at the height of Nazi power, it tells the tale of a spy moving between Switzerland and Germany delivering and bringing back information. Well developed characters although you have to stay on your toes in the beginning. Give it a try.

Cannot say I ever read a better book, and that includes Daniel SIlva, Vince Flynn, David Baldacci, Wilbur Smith and James Michener. My only disappointment was to find out how few novels he has written. Traet yourself to a real spy thriller. I also recommend Alex'x other great novel, the Best of Our Spies.

McDonald This is a very unconventional spy novel, which is hard to describe without revealing important episodes in the story. In the afterward, the author describes the reality of this book although it is a work of fiction. The novel is written in a linear fashion and I was soon caught in the vortex of events. In some ways the good guy/bad guy element was blurred and it is this characteristic that makes for an engrossing read. For those who fear the complications of a Le Carre style spy novel, I assure you this is a straight-forward storyline with all the spying quite in the open. Buy this book and you will be very satisfied with the time spent!

There’s plenty of information that COULD be on it, so what do you concentrate on and what can you leave out? Sure, you can review everything you ever learned, but will a quick read through really get the information you need into your head? Not likely. But this study guide really can. The guide has all of the details in it that will be covered on the test. So when you study the guide, you are getting the details that will be on the test and nothing extra. You will have in front of you everything that matters and you will be able to use that information wisely before you ever go in to take the test.

This is the best study guide out there in order to prepare for the OHST Exam. It’s like having the whole exam broken down into nice, manageable sections that are fun to read. The book is clean and well formatted. There’s room to make small notes too. All the topics are logically and sequentially listed and very easy to go back to refer to, when necessary.You can really tell that exam experts worked hard to put this book together. It’s just so comprehensive and will help you get through all the heavy stuff. There’s also some very useful information included that will help you be confident in your preparations. Normally, you wouldn’t expect to find test taking strategies and ways to get yourself physically prepared for a standardized test, but this book includes great information that will help you in more ways than one!It’s comprehensive, nicely organized and put together and very well written. Getting this study guide is like having a secret insight into the real exam. Plus the practice test questions will get you comfortable with the style and flow of the test. Study guide for success By Iam If you buy this study guide, you will see right away that the content in the guide was mean to cover what will be on the test. That much is helpful enough, but the guide also has some other things like test taking tips that help you overcome mistakes that a lot of people make. Dumb mistakes that can really trip you up. You know you're going to have to take standardized tests in order to get where you want to go. That doesn't mean you like it, but you have to do it anyway. My gut has yet to steer me wrong, only when I don't follow, is when things go haywire. So, I purchased it, opened it up as an e-book format and was elated. I mean how amazing that we get to have a study guide and be able to study from anywhere. It works so amazingly in my life and was one the major deciding factors in the purchase.I started moving forward in studying right away, and happy to notice that the tips on how to calm oneself during exam, how to prepare and all of that was in study guide first. It was sort of like a checklist of get it together and you got this. It was a really good feeling actually.Then every single section, description, definition was broken down thoroughly without getting you bored. They were short but right to the point with al the details you need. It really breaks down the exam, now that I look back. Since I have taken and passed!Everything, you can tell, was researched and produced for succeeding in acing this exam and then some.
