Vanilla By Angie Elle Thank you to MIRA and Netgalley for providing a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.One thing I know for sure when I pick up a book by Megan Hart is that I am in for a surprise; this is an author who never writes the same book twice. What I can count on is characters in realistic situations with emotions that are so genuine they leap off the page. These books may be classified as romance or erotica, but they’re so much more than that.Vanilla was Elise’s journey to find not only herself, but a contentment she didn’t know existed. Her character was very interesting. For someone so open about alternate lifestyles, I think she unknowingly had a rigid vision of the way things were supposed to go for her. When Elise was introduced to something new, she wasn’t closed to it, but she was taken by surprise at how simple things could affect her. Her family was a wreck, and she tried to be a buffer at times. And while all this was going on, she was still recovering from a break up that had happened years ago.I really enjoyed the pacing of this book. I felt like it was broken up into two parts – the first gives us a glimpse into Elise’s sexual tastes and establishes who she is as a person. She’s compassionate and always tries to do the right thing, but sees that right and wrong isn’t always black and white. The second half shows us what happens when Elise’s life is upended, and she doesn’t get what she wants. This is where Niall shows up and throws a wrench into Elise’s life, forcing her to sort through her past. Niall was a force to be reckoned with, and he wasn’t willing to give in to everything Elise wanted. But the chemistry between them was electric, and it was clear she was going to have to compromise if she wanted things to work out. Her journey begins at this point, and the reader gets an opportunity to see Elise’s struggle to come to grips with her past and present – and if she’s willing to make some changes in order to be with Niall.What I loved about this book, and every other Megan Hart book I’ve read, is that things were resolved in a plausible way. It’s never perfect, just like in real life, but it is at a place where I can believe these are choices the characters would make. If you're looking for a story about self-discovery with some surprises and steamy scenes along the way, I think you’ll enjoy this one.This review was originally posted at Badass Book Reviews.

If Fifty Shades was a Touch Too Much for You, Try this Out By TammyJo Eckhart I have not read anything else from Megan Hart, she doesn't show up on the genre lists of what I usually read nor has she shown up as a sister BDSM author. This is more a romance than anything else but it doesn't follow all of that genre's tropes which is good because I find a lot of those tiresome.Hart balance showing and telling well, giving us enough descriptions to urge our imaginations without forcing us to picture her characters in one single way. Her dialogue seems genuine and the situations believable as do her characters.Elise seems like the average woman who discovers she likes a little Ds in her life where she is the one in charge; it isn't about kink, it's about attention, detail, and desire. We never feel like Elise is bad or wrong, we don't feel like her desires are because of something messed up in her childhood or a substitution for heartbreak. Elise is normal.Niall seems very normal, too, and thus they, of course, run into difficulties that threaten their love. But Niall isn't a stereotypical "normal guy," that's more Elise's brother frankly, more her lovers, too. He's normal in that he behaves like most good men would, a bit worried and a bit intrigued by a slightly kinky lady he has so many other things in common.That normalcy is really what makes this a believable and hopeful love story. As a kinky woman I wasn't offended by the portrayals, as a woman with a long-time husband I was pleased by the truth of the feelings and the challenges, and as an author myself I wasn't offended by poor grammar or simplistic writing.

I think some people have an issue with it but if you know the Author's work you know that this is just all part of the charm of a Megan Hart book.I really enjoyed this book. As usual Megan has once again struck a different and original plot line that I have yet to come across. It's not often that we get to see things done with the female being the dominant and I found that it was extremely refreshing to embark on this adventure with a different view.Now again normally I prefer my books to stay largely based on the main couple but again the Author has done a great job of bringing you through a few different relationships all with different desirable aspects. I will be honest and say for a while there I honestly wasn't sure who Elisa was going to end up with and strangely enough I enjoyed this part of the book most. You never knew exactly what was going to happen next.As usual, the Author has done a superb job of giving a great back story with lots of depth. If you are looking for a quick read than this isn't for you but if you are wanting a read that will suck you into the story and make you feel as if you yourself are apart of it, then this is totally the book for you!At the end of the day I was glad to have read this one. I laughed, I teared up and I definitely had to go cool down often!
