Don’t call him “Cupid.” Eros is queerer, snarkier, louder, and larger in every way imaginable than the cutesy cartoon figure you see on greeting cards this time of year. And, after suffering a great loss, he is now officially anti-romance. Just how anti-romance? With the accuracy of his bow and arrow, he made the prime minister of Spain fall in love with a bull. In short, Eros is done. But God has Eros in her sights and has sent him an assistant, the serious-minded Archimedes (“Arc” to Eros), who, with all his good-naturedness, as well as his unwavering focus on bringing love and romance into the lives of the people on Earth, is the bane of Eros’ existence. When Arc gets him to open up about his heartache, Eros drops the snark and his defenses, long enough, at least, to enjoy a blissful, unexpectedly kinky night with a man who’s gone from foe to beau.

From the Author Redeeming Cupid was too long to be considered a "short story" and too short to be considered a "novella". I decided to refer to it as a "shortella". While it is a Valentine's Day story, you can read it any time of the year. And I hope you do.I also hope you enjoy!

And that is bad. Because instead of making people fall in love with their soul mates, he entertains himself wreaking havoc on lonely hearts…. Maybe his extremely sexy assistant Archimedes can help him recover his faith in love…Short, funny and smutty… A great Valentine’s Day story. Refreshing.

My kind of guy. The story is not a typical Valentines themed story. It's refreshing and sexy. I have a feeling I'll read this story over and over again.

"I fought through the War Between the States and have seen many men shot, but the Cherokee Removal was the cruelest work I ever knew." - Georgia soldier on the Trail of Tears

The "Five Civilized Tribes" are among the best known Native American groups in American history, and they were even celebrated by contemporary Americans for their abilities to adapt to white culture. But tragically, they are also well known tribes due to the trials and tribulations they suffered by being forcibly moved west along the "Trail of Tears".

Though the Trail of Tears applied to several different tribes, it is most commonly associated today with the Cherokee. The Cherokee began the process of assimilation into European America very early, even before the establishment of the Unites States, but it is unclear what benefits that brought the tribe. Throughout the colonial period and after the American Revolution, the Cherokee struggled to satisfy the whims and desires of American government officials and settlers, often suffering injustices after complying with their desires. Nevertheless, the Cherokee continued to endure, and after being pushed west, they rose from humble origins as refugees new to the southeastern United States to build themselves back up into a powerhouse both economically and militarily. The Cherokee ultimately became the first people of non-European descent to become U.S. citizens en masse, and today the Cherokee Nation is the largest federally recognized tribe in the United States, boasting over 300,000 members.

THIS IS A KEEPER By Vickie Woodard Yesterday's newspaper had an advertisement for the Pow Wow to be held at the Trail of Tears park the first weekend in September. There will be dancing, story telling, crafts, food and only Heaven knows what else. But for me there will be memories. Do people really take the time to understand how the park got its' name? If they did there would be less laughter. When Thomas Jefferson considered acquiring the Louisiana Purchase he made a list of reasons he wanted it. One of those reasons was to move the Native Americans away from the European settlers. Previously there was an unwritten agreement for Indians to settle between the Appalachian Mountains and the Mississippi River. TJ didn't know about the tribes west of the Mississippi, but I doubt that he cared. He just knew things were getting crowded in our New World and his constituents would be safer if he could move 'certain' people farther away. Let THEM worry about the new neighborhood.I've told you about this word I can't (and won't) spell before. What part of your crispy bacon do you like best, the meat or the fat? It's a good thing I have low cholesterol, because I like the fat. There's a word almost every tribe used (some still use) for the settlers and their dependents. It means steals the fat.In other words, the folks who were here first said the new guys wanted all the best parts for themselves. The five civilized tribes, the tribes who tried to help the new guys, who learned English, who learned to live side by side, who became guides, or worked with the army to protect the settlers from other tribes ( that would be the Cherokee, Chickasaw, Chocktaw, Creek and Seminole ). Many members of these tribes converted to Christianity. Some patterned their governments after our federal government. When soldiers moved in to forcibly remove them they filed legal suits with the Supreme Court. After all, a reservation is not state property, it's federal property. But since their government is not a foreign government, but a government they created, well, I'll let you guess. But I will tell you that President Andrew Jackson defied the Supreme Court and removed the Cherokee and everyone else. He created a brand new treaty with the Cherokee that HE signed, but that remains unsigned by any Cherokee representative to this day.My great-grandmother grew up in North Carolina. This book doesn't tell you how a reservation came to be established there (legally it's called a land trust. Picky, picky.) A Cherokee man named Tsali ( white books give his name as Charlie.) and his brothers told the soldiers they would help find the people who were hiding in the mountains. Instead he led them on a wild goose chase. That gave the people time to hide in caves the soldiers would probably never find. By the time the soldiers figured it out it was dark and they were already late for meeting the group down south.Tsali and his brothers were lynched. That story was passed down. The Cherokee were not the only ones to suffer. The government was so intent on getting the Seminoles l e out of Florida they had three wars with them. Did you read about that in your American history book? I sure didn'tThe Creek were told they could stay behind and sell their property. Do you really think THAT was the truth?Their tribe outlawed Christianity when a missionary, well, you just guess what the missionary did. Eventually God was allowed in their homes again. God, not missionaries. The most important part to read is the last several pages. It was written by a soldier who accompanied one of the tribes on their trip. That section shows you both the best and the worst of humanity.

The book also gives more Tribes who were part of this tragedy credit for their part in this inhumane treatment of man! We seem to be so sensitive to inhumane treatment of people of other nations today,Is'nt a shame no one was there to stop this inhumane treatment of the native Americans! It is also a tragedy that we still do not recognize that this was done to the native Americans nor has anyone tried to make up for what was done to them! I recently observed a sign where several native Americans, the sign stated " Go ahead and let the government take your guns, you do not remember how well it worked for us!"

Shaver This is another sad story about the plight of First Americans and their forced move from the Southern States to Indian Territory Okolona by General Winfield Scott with blessings from President Andrew Jackson. Indian men were arrested and driven into stockades; Women were dragged from their homes into stockades with the sky for blankest. The old were prodded with bayonets to hasten them into stockades over four thousand Cherokee’s Choctaw’s and Creek’s lost their lives in this forced evacuation, no wander it is called “The Trail of Tears” experienced by the Cherokee, Creeks, Choctaw who were forced to leave their ancestral hones and most of their possessions over eight thousand lost their lives but it was better than the genocide practiced by some solders and whites in the Plains and West. The forced removal from their original land is repeated time and time again by our government as soon as whites found riches or good land the Indians lost When Gold was found on Cherokee land Georgia passed laws restricting Cherokee rights to the land and authorized forced removal of them from their land. The Cherokees fought back by appealing to the president Andrew Jackson and Congress and sought an injunction to halt the repressive Georgia laws. The case was heard by the Supreme Court who was sympatric to the Cherokee’s problem. The court flip/flopped first refusing to hear the injunction then ruled that the Cherokee nation was a separate political entity the court overturned Georgia law on the basis that states were not authorized to negotiate the terms of use of Native American Lands. Both the state of Georgia and President Andrew Jackson ignored the ruling Jacksons quotes John Marshall has made his decision now let him enforce it. Jackson ignored what Marshal (the Supreme Court) said and moved ahead with the Indian Removal. This was a stunning and dangerous break with American Constitutional Law. Jackson had essentially argued that since the court had no way of enforcing its mandates, the President was free to do as he pleased. (Sound familiar?) The Cherokees were forced along three separate trails that utilized both overland and water routes and averaged 1,200 miles it was carried out by 7000 federal troops. The book documents another sad chapter on American Indian Policy.

I learned nothing about the characters. You know that Eve works for Nicholas as a bondage model and is his submissive. She likes sex. I see that Nicholas likes to share his woman. I was glad to finish it. If you want to fall asleep quick you can pick this as a read. Don't want to see what happens next

Now a Hallmark Channel movie event, The Bridge, along with prequel The Beginning, is a heartwarming story of two couples who find love in a bookstore and experience the sort of miracle that can only happen at Christmastime.#1 New York Times bestselling author Karen Kingsbury has written a modern-day classic with this unforgettable love story set against the struggle of the American bookstore. Molly Allen lives alone in Portland, but she left her heart back in Tennessee when she walked away from Ryan five years ago. They had a rare sort of love she hasn’t found since. Ryan Kelly lives in Nashville after a broken engagement and several years on the road touring with a country music duo. Sometimes when he’s lonely, he visits The Bridge—the oldest bookstore in historic downtown Franklin—and remembers the hours he and Molly once spent there. For over four decades, Charlie and Donna Barton have run The Bridge, providing customers with coffee, conversation, and shelves of classics—even through dismal sales and the rise of digital books. Then the hundred-year flood sweeps through Franklin and destroys everything. The bank is about to pull the store’s lease when tragedy strikes. Can two generations of readers rally together to save The Bridge? And is it possible that an unforgettable love might lead to the miracle of a second chance?

The Bridge: A Novel, by Karen Kingsbury

From Publishers Weekly Popular inspirational novelist Kingsbury goes mainstream in her newest, which mixes a love story with a seasonal one that borrows from the Christmas favorite It's A Wonderful Life. Molly Allen and Ryan Kelly were college friends heading toward something more when a misunderstanding drives them apart. Five years later, Molly pines for Ryan, a country music guitarist, and vice versa, even though each assumes the other has married an earlier sweetheart. Meanwhile, Charlie Barton, owner of the Bridge, the Franklin, Tenn., bookstore where Molly and Ryan hung out, faces ruin in the aftermath of a devastating flood and the changes in publishing that have devastated many a book retailer. Shortly before Christmas, Charlie comes desperately to think he's worth more dead than alive, but before he can change his mind, a car accident leaves him in a coma. When Ryan hears about the accident, he begins a book drive for Charlie, and those who know the Jimmy Stewart holiday film don't have to guess how things turn out. Kingsbury fans may acquire a new holiday favorite read in this sugary tale of second chances. (Oct. 23) Ǩ

From Booklist What’s left when you lose everything? Kingsbury (Coming Home, 2012) works through that tough question in her newest novel. Charlie Barton and his wife, Donna, ran the Bridge, a historic bookstore in Franklin, Tennessee, for 30 years, but a declining industry and a devastating flood left them with an empty storefront and insurmountable bills. Molly Allen and Ryan Kelly connected in college over their passion for reading, using the Bridge as their getaway from the very different lives they lead. ED: S/B “they led”? Years later, both look back and wonder what could have been. When Charlie gets into a horrible accident, Ryan decides to organize a book drive and gather donations, so Charlie can rebuild the bookstore when he heals. Through the effort, Ryan and Molly reconnect. It’s hard to know what is most important until something forces you to change your perspective. Kingsbury’s characters are confronted with the hard choices readers face daily. The award-winning author brings her trademark empathy for the people she writes for to this tale, and fans will love her dramatic take on real issues. --Carolyn Richard

I love her books and her writing, but I can't find words to describe what I feel is lacking with THE BRIDGE. I read the short story prequel THE BEGINNING and was immediately sucked into the story because I felt a great connection with Charlie and Donna and their love of books. I couldn't find that same connection with Molly and Ryan in THE BRIDGE. THE BRIDGE seemed really short. Only 77% of the Kindle edition was the actual book. My favorite part of THE BRIDGE was the group of people coming together to try and help the bookstore. I could identify with that. There are good people out there who will help! Good people helped my family when my son underwent brain surgery with prayers, money or just a shoulder to cry on. In a nutshell, I enjoyed the book but felt something was missing. I wanted more book, more story, more something. Again, I can't rightly express my feelings. However, I continue to be a KK fan and will continue to read her books.Additional thoughts...I just realized what bugged me about this book. I didn't feel God in the pages. Every other KK book has been very much about prayer, seeking God's wisdom, etc. I like Karen's very in your face writing about God and seeking a relationship with him. I didn't feel that here. Other than Charlie praying about the store, I didn't see the other characters really going to God.***UPDATED 12/12/15***The Hallmark Channel recently aired The Bridge as part of their 2015 Christmas movie line up. Seeing the movie lead me to re-read the book. I'm glad I did. I enjoyed it much more this time. I'm changing my rating from 3 stars to 4 stars. The book is still a lot shorter than a usual Kingsbury book and I still wish there was more story for Ryan and Molly. But this time I did find God in the pages. As I read it this time I often wondered how I missed Him the first time.If you're looking for a short Christmas story about lost love and second chances check out The Bridge.***UPDATED 4/12/16***Yes, I know that Hallmark aired The Bridge Part 2 in March vs. their originally planned air date of December 2016. YAY HALLMARK! You can read my thoughts on Part 2 of the movie at bookishdevices(dot)com.

"The Bridge," a bookstore, in Franklin, Tennessee has served the community for many years. The owners, unable to pay the rent, are on the brink of losing their store. When tragedy strikes, a former college student who used to frequent "The Bridge" tries to step in and help. While trying to rally a town together, he relives his memories at "The Bridge" and wonders about Molly, his long-ago love. The Bridge is set between Thanksgiving and Christmas, a time when many are longing for a miracle in their lives and a time when many are getting into the giving spirit. The Bridge will help with this as readers travel to Franklin and stroll down the streets, as they see the small shops and boutiques, and as they gaze into the historic bookstore in downtown Franklin. Many readers will be captured by a previous love and a hope and a prayer for the owner who provided a place for it to happen.I am a huge Karen Kingsbury fan and I was really excited to read The Bridge. As with most of Karen's books, I was not disappointed. The Bridge kept moving and really held my attention. Many times I found myself caught up in the story-feeling the pain of the characters and longing with them for miracles and second chances.I received a copy of "The Bridge" from Howard Books via NetGalley in exchange for my honest review. I was reading the book electronically so I had no idea the book was anywhere near being over. The characters were underdeveloped and the ending was so predictable and "tidy". I am a huge Karen kingsbury fan. I've read every novel she's written so it pains me to write a review that is less than 5 star. Unfortunately, This is not a book I will be recommending.

“Are we supposed to have sex with these guys?” I muttered to my friend Rachel, who had turned me on to this job. Rachel giggled. “I think it is sort of a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell policy.’ We are definitely not required to, but it is most certainly not frowned upon. Anything to make them feel like royalty, I suppose.”

Their job entails things like: grocery shopping, buying clothes, designated driving, etc. The pay is good, but there is a dark side not listed in the job description. Shortly after feelings develop for Latrelle McKay, star quarterback and Heisman favorite, life changes dramatically for Olivia. His popularity conflicts with her introverted ways. Review

"Painted in broad, sweeping strokes, each tale is a tour de force."—New York Times

From the Publisher Jack London (1876-1916) is author of Call of the Wild, Sea Wolf, and White Fang, among many other works.

About the Author Jack London was an American author, journalist, and adventurer. London s early careers as sailor, fisherman, and prospector provided inspiration for his later writing, and it was only when he returned from the Klondike that London decided to focus on social activism and journalism. He soon became a popular magazine columnist and author, and a prolific commercial writer, penning over two dozen novels, and numerous short stories and poems. His most famous works include The Call of the Wild, White Fang, The Sea-Wolf, and the short stories To Build a Fire, and An Oddyssey of the North. London died in 1916.

Jack London's little-known short story classics By David Hann This collection of short stories contains the well-known classic, "To Build a Fire," and that story deserves its place at the summit of American short stories. What the collection Lost Face has, however, are several other Jack London short stories that are sure to hold your attention. The title story, "Lost Face," depicts how a man's ability to keep his head in a dire situation saves him from a fate worse than death. My personal favorite in this collection is "That Spot," a great story for anyone who has owned or had to deal with a difficult dog. The narrator of "That Spot" remarks that there was something about Spot that made him uneasy, and the reader soon understands what that meant. This is a great collection of short stories, one which I recommend to anyone who likes Jack London's writing.

7 of 7 people found the following review helpful. Much more than just "To Build a Fire" By Karl Janssen Lost Face is a collection of seven short stories by Jack London, all of which take place in Alaska or the Yukon Territory around the time of the Klondike Gold Rush. It is most notable for being the collection which contains "To Build a Fire," the classic story of a man trudging along the Yukon Trail, alone but for his dog, who finds himself struggling for survival against the 75-below-zero cold. It is London's most famous and widely read piece of writing, about as perfect as a short story can be, and sure to be read in junior high school English classes for centuries to come.In addition to this renowned masterpiece, Lost Face is loaded with unexpected gems. I had never heard of the other six stories in this collection, and I was greatly surprised at how good they are. By the time Lost Face was published in 1910, London had already published five collections of Klondike tales, ranging from the excellent (The Faith of Men) to the OK (Love of Life). In the latter book, London showed signs of exhausting the subject matter and running out of ideas, but here in Lost Face he comes up with seven very solid, original, exciting tales. The title story, "Lost Face," recalls the odyssey of a Polish freedom fighter who is imprisoned by the Russians, then escapes from the mines of Siberia and ends up in Alaska. He finds himself faced with torture and death at the hands of a Native American tribe, and desperately tries to come up with a way out of his predicament. "That Spot" is a comical tale in which the narrator recalls a dog he owned during his prospecting days in the Yukon; a magnificent, powerful, keenly intelligent beast who absolutely refused to perform the slightest bit of useful labor. In "Flush of Gold," two travelers on the sled dog trail stop at a cabin on Surprise Lake, where dwells a beautiful, mysterious woman who pines for a former lover. As one of the men relates the woman's history to his companion, the reader discovers the bizarre love story that darkens her past. "The Wit of Porportuk" tells of an Alaskan Indian chief, famous for his generosity and extravagance, who runs up big debts to a miserly money lender. When the time comes to collect the debt, the lender, Porportuk, sees it as an opportunity to claim the chief's beautiful daughter El-Soo for his mate. The girl, however, being very clever and well educated, comes up with a scheme to avoid becoming the greedy old man's property. Neither party's plans prove entirely successful, however, and just when you think you know where the story's going, it turns in a shocking and unexpected direction.Comparing the stories of Lost Face to London's Klondike tales of a decade earlier, one really gets a sense of how much he progressed as a writer. These seven tales are rendered in smooth and beautiful prose, skillfully plotted, and remarkably vivid in their depiction of time and place. Reading Lost Face transports you to the bygone world of the exotic North. Through London's eyes, it's a wild and unpredictable place where the powerful beauty of nature is ever present and invigorating adventure is commonplace.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Lost Face By Mrs. Pigglewiggle This fine little collection is a real keeper. Jack London's superb storytelling shines through, and each little short story in the book means something. I highly recommend this book. One of the reasons I admire Jack London as a writer, is because of his ability to capture your imagination, and transport you to his character's settings and world. "Lost Face" is a great example of that.

October 2011. In the dying days of the Libyan civil war, Muammar Gaddafi is hiding out in his home town of Sirte along with his closest advisors. They await a convoy that will take them south, away from encroaching rebel forces and NATO aerial attacks. The mood is sombre. In what will be his final night, Gaddafi reflects on an extraordinary life, whilst still raging against the West, his fellow Arab nations and the ingratitude of the Libyan people. In this gripping imagining of the last hours of President Gaddafi, Yasmina Khadra provides us with fascinating insight into the mind of one of the most complex and controversial figures of recent history.

4 of 4 people found the following review helpful. The Dictator's Last Night By S Riaz This novel takes as its subject matter the controversial figure of Muammar Gaddafi, seen through the last night of his life. Gaddafi has retreated to Sirte after the fall of Tripoli in the Libyan Civil War; where the former dictator is holed up in a disused school, waiting for the arrival of his son, Mutassim, and hoping to break out and find refuge in another part of the country. While he waits, Gaddafi reflects on the Arab Spring, his life and those around him.It is difficult to create a moving and sympathetic portrait of a man who divided opinion so strongly – both in his lifetime and since his death. Portrayed in the West as a vaguely comic figure, he was obviously feared by many in his own country, and, indeed, his own entourage, and the author manages to create a realistic portrayal of a man who is cornered and yet defiant. Reflecting on his Bedouin childhood, insults and slights – remembered and pored over – revenge, power and success; Gaddafi turns from feelings of despondency over his perceived situation, anger at the astounding ingratitude of his people and ministers and an inability to accept any dissent or criticism, even while asking those around him what went wrong…Through Gaddafi’s fictional memories, the author manages to give us the essential history of a man who rose from poverty to change his destiny; heading a coup d’etat in 1969 to depose King Idris and having extraordinary power. By containing the book within this short, but incredibly stressful, time period, the novel feels extremely tense and gripping. Although we know the outcome, I did find the whole book simply riveting and was unable to put it down at the end. This would be an incredible choice for reading groups, with so much to discuss. Lastly, I received a copy of this book from the publisher, via NetGalley, for review. Highly recommended.

2 of 2 people found the following review helpful. Disappointing By Kate Vane I had such hopes for this novel. I read the news but there’s so much I don’t know about Libya and its former leader, Muammar Gaddafi. I thought this first-person account of the last few hours of his life would give me insights into the politics, economics and culture of the country which he ruled, and the factors that led to his downfall. And Gaddafi, with his vanity and guile and bizarre behavior, would make the ultimate unreliable narrator. The novel begins with Gaddafi in hiding in a disused building, with just a few loyalists around him, contemplating what he sees as the failure of his allies and the treachery of his people. We are taken through a series of conversations, interspersed with his memories and thoughts on key events in his life, ending with his attempt to flee and his violent death at the hands of a militia. The structure should make for great drama, so what went wrong? I think the key difficulty is the voice. Of course, any narrative, particularly a first person one, is a device, but it’s not clear who is speaking here. Are we reading Gaddafi’s innermost thoughts? Or is he, even now, trying to live up to his public persona? It’s not quite either. The prose at best is functional and there doesn’t seem to be a fully developed character animating the words. What we get instead are some clunky exchanges of dialogue, and reminiscences which don’t really take you beyond the headlines.I didn’t feel I’d got a deeper sense of who Gaddafi was. How did he rise up from nothing? What was his appeal? What drove him? There is some odd phrasing too. I’m not sure whether this is due to the original or the translation. But who, under any circumstances, never mind when lying in a drain facing imminent death, would muse, “A guide, though entrusted with a messianic mission, when he has official responsibility for a country, does not turn the other cheek”?The book feels like one of those dramatised reconstructions you get in TV documentaries, where underemployed actors struggle valiantly to give life to chunks of exposition. Disappointing.*I received an ARC from the publisher via Netgalley.

By Gonza It had been a while since the last time I read a Yasmina Khadra's book but he is still one of my favorite author. In his special super simple way he has the ability to tell a very difficult story where we can almost empathize with one of the most dangerous and tyrannical man of the last 30 years. His own vision of Libia and of his role in guiding it outside the power of the western country and the reasons behind his defeat mostly; a pity that there isn't very much about the way he became the "brotherly guide", with a little help from some "Italian Friends", but ok, this book is all about the last night of the Rais before his defeat.

Ella Kendall was a 24 year old petite girl with long wavy chocolate brown hair and mesmerizing blue eyes. She had that effortless radiant beauty which many women would love to possess, yet she wasn't really aware of it. She was a kind soul, always ready to help, with a constant smile on her face. But when her four year relationship with who she taught was the love of her life ended, she felt distant and lost and her disappointment in love was greater than ever. One morning while she was sitting in a café, drinking her usual, black coffee with no sugar, Ian Bell showed up along with a few of his friends. He was 26 and insanely hot, with gorgeous brown eyes and a smile to die for. She could tell that he wasn't even trying to be sexy. He was wearing a muddy sweater, torn from an aggressive basketball game, which they won by the way. Ian made Ella feel more alive than anyone ever before. They instantly made a connection, and from that morning on, couldn’t stay away from each other. Soon they started meeting in a hotel, always in the same room. There, they both discovered their wild sides and did everything to each other they could only fantasize about before.

I would recommend it to lovers of this genre. I'm not usually a reader of erotic romance, but hey this book caught my attention and I thought I would give it a try. You know how some books are hard to get into, and you find yourself skipping over words or sentences. Well not this one. This story is about Ella, the main character in the story who is very beautiful how she felt for Ian the other important character of the story. This book grabbed me from the very first page and I was careful not to skim over any of it. I didn't want to miss a single word. I felt like the author herself was describing her own personal experiences. It was so detailed and so real that I felt like I was there. Needless to say, this fiery short story leaves you wet for more!

This book told of a realistic modern love story. That at times gets pretty steamy. My favorite part of the book is when Ella answers the phone thinking that it’s Ian on the other end. She ends up finding out that it’s her mom. The conversation they have is so typical for a mother and daughter today. I also liked how Ian seemed a little jealous towards the end. The jealousy shows how Ian’s character developed throughout the story. Hotel Mischief is a highly enjoyable book that I would recommend to others.

Great characters in Ella, Ian and her mom.You will enjoy reading this sexy story and getting lost in the fantasy.Received an arc copy in return for an honest review

Shallow And Obvious By Dave_42 After numerous stories which take place in the U.S., and the Midwest for the most part, Tarkington at last returns to Europe for the setting of his novella "His Own People". Unfortunately, this one doesn't recapture the fun of "Monsieur Beaucaire". The story is light easy reading, but at the same time there is little of substance included. The book was originally published in October of 1907, and is the fourth of his novella length works, and his eighth book overall. The hero is Robert Russ Mellin, a young American who takes everything he has to Europe to look for culture. In doing so, he pretends to be a man of more means than he actually has, and captures the attention of a beautiful French woman, (Héléne) Comtesse de Vaurigard. He gets pulled into her circle of friends, along with another young American, Mr. Cooley, who is everything that Mellin is pretending to be. As he travels around Europe, he does his best to conveniently be where the Comtesse de Vaurigard is, which brings him to Rome, where he meets another of their friends, Lady Mount-Rhyswicke. It is also there that he meets up again with Mr. Cooley. It is one of those stories where Tarkington tries to tip off the reader to what is coming, and in that he is much too successful, leaving the reader waiting for the story to catch up for the majority of the book. It also suffers from Tarkington's attempt to convey the accents of various characters by mutilating the words in the spoken dialogue. It does have a nice, though rather unbelievable ending, but there is little else that one can say for it.

Anunnaki: False Gods extends Zecharia Sitchin's translations from clay tablets that underlie the Bible. 10,000 years ago, scribes in ancient Sumer (Iraq) wrote on these tablets what they said the Anunnaki gods (tall people from the sky) dictated. Sitchin asked Dr. Lessin keep public attention on his legacy by creating an educational program. The Anunnaki are Homo sapiens like us but who live hundreds of thousands of years. They said they rocketed to Iraq 450,000 years ago from a planet called Nibiru to harvest gold to send back (via Mars) to Nibiru to powder into an atmospheric shield. They mined abundant gold in Africa until, 300,000 years ago, their miners mutinied. To replace the mutineers, Anunnaki geneticists created short-lived slaves, called Adamites, adapted from their own genome but modified with a bit of clay, copper and genes from an intelligent hominoid, Homo erectus (Bigfoot’s ancestor) already living in Africa. Two hundred thousand years ago, Enki, their Chief Scientist, begat a line of Earthlings called Adapites with two Adamite girls. Fifty thousand years ago Enki and an Adamite beauty begat Noah, who carried Enki’s longevity genes and ruled the Iraqi city of Sharuppak. Enki saved Noah and many of his subjects from the Deluge of 13,000 years ago. The Anunnaki had Noah’s people and other flood survivors proliferate and build cities in the Middle East and Egypt with up to 50,000 inhabitants. The Anunnaki ruled the new civilizations as gods with descendants of Noah’s sons as intermediaries. The Anunnaki gave us the best and the worst of planet-wide civilization--kings, historians, taxes, temples, priests, bicameral congresses, record-keeping, law codes, library catalogs, furnaces, kilns, wheeled vehicles, paved roads, medicines, cosmogony, cosmology, festivals, beer, food recipes, art, music, music instruments, music notes, dance, textiles, and multicolored apparel. Sumerian schools taught mathematics, architecture, theology, writing, grammar, botany, zoology, geography. They displayed but did not pass on a world-wide energy grid, air, submarine and interplanetary transport vehicles and advanced computers. They also gave us hierarchy, misogyny, violence, greed, slavery, debt and war that featured genocide and weapons of mass destruction. In 2024 BCE Anunnaki ruined their eastern Mediterranean cities with nuclear blasts and fallout storms. Most of the Anunnaki returned to Nibiru by 311 BCE. But some stayed. They and their descendants (the power elite) rule us to this day. They and their spawn created and perpetuate exclusive, hostile nations and religions to keep us divided. They addicted us to credit institutions to keep us slaving. Their tales of their stay on Earth before they made our ancestors, as well as what our forefathers directly saw, imprinted us with the values of their hierarchic, male-run, master-slave-enemy mentality. We assumed values of extraction, pollution, monetary monopoly and obsession with gold. Fortunately, the Lessins contend, the genetics team that created us also gave us the capacity and preserved the histories Sitchin and others translated so we can overcome the liabilities they left us.

About the Author SASHA ALEX LESSIN, PH.D. - Dr. Lessin, co-author with wife Janet Kira Ninmah Lessin of Anunnaki, Gods No More, Legacy of the Gods, Great Relations, How to Really Love a Woman, holds and M.A. in Counseling and a Ph.D. in Anthropology from U.C.L.A. Each week Dr. Lessin and Janet host experts in ancient aliens, extra-biological entities contact, ufology, conspiracy, centering, tantra and relationship counseling on internet radio for Revolution Radio and Aquarian Radio. The late Zecharia Sitchin asked Lessin to teach about ET s on Earth so we may transcend the ideologies for which we fight, die and enslave others. The Lessins live and broadcast from their community in the mountains of Maui, Hawaii. Sasha Lessin Ph.D. (U.C.L.A. Anthropology, Ph.D.), author of Anunnaki: Gods No More and producer of the hugely popular web site, www.enkispeaks.com, studied with the late Zecharia Sitchin, for many years. Mr. Sitchin asked Lessin to create popular internet, book and college-level courses to revise ancient anthropology. Sitchin asked Dr. Lessin to help disseminate written, graphic and traditional stories of ETs, hithertofore considered mythic "gods" on Earth from 450,000 - 300 BCE as well as the latest findings in astronomy that relate to the planet Nibiru from which the ETs came to Earth for gold to shield their planet, Nibiru. Janet Kira Lessin, a lifelong scholar and experiencer of ET contacts, and a student of Sitchin as well, is the voice of Ninmah consciousness and is dedicated to bringing the wisdom of Ninmah to the world. She has co-authored Anunnaki: Legacy of the Gods with Dr. Lessin. Together, the Lessins us through an evocative history of giants from the planet Nibiru. They share evidence the giants created us from their genome work for them from the ancient past till now. This info, they say, frees us from the god-spell, the nation-spell and the materialist-spell, the master-slave, god-devotee, boss-worker, lord-tenant model ETs from planet Nibiru imposed on us. Our true history frees us to create our own future, activate our latent Nibiran genes, better our genome and join galactic civilization.

Ancient history for our times By Nowick Gray The title of this ambitious work tells us a lot: that the gods we know from mythology were not actually divine, but extraterrestrial; and their relevance is with us today in the institutions driving humanity to ruin. The book description gives the overview of the story; the book itself fleshes it out in painstaking and vivid detail. What emerges is virtually an alternative Bible text, with a chronology and litany of personages that overlaps that largely accepted history and goes far beyond. From it we can understand not only the basis of Near Eastern empires and clashing civilizations, but such mysteries as ancient architectures and technologies, and the seed of hierarchy and greed in human institutions. The Anunnaki, by this account, are truly the missing link in the evolution of humans genetically and culturally, from our more natural beginnings to the GMO versions we inhabit, unwittingly, to this day. The rendering of the ancient texts in this book is faithful to the archaic prose of Sitchin's translations, but balanced by up-to-date summary and commentary delivered in punchy, concrete prose that is both comprehensive and persuasive. Highly recommended for all students of alternative history, ET intervention, and ancient architectural mysteries such as the pyramids.

Morris I love studying any of the material from Sitchin's research and although the material is according to Z Sitchen's works, its presentation is faulty. The manuscript needed a more vigorous editing and proofing to clear the several errors and contradictions that will influence the reader new to this material and who has not previously studied the subject of the Anunnaki as written by Z Sitchin. How about another re-write and a new edition?

By Amazon Customer Very well written, with details not found in similar books dealing with the life of the Annunaki. Consistency of ancient history with that of Zechariah Sitchin,s work is especially appealing.

Review From TP O'Brien LLB, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia.Have acquired a kindle... have procured 'Rosso'.... and have read it with much pleasure and admiration for its author. You have a wonderful gift my friend. Some of your descriptive work is simply magnificent. You impart much wisdom and some beautiful insights into humanity. There is 'real soul' between the pages.I know you better for that wonderful read, mate.CongratulationsThank you

From the Author Rosso is my debut book and was great fun to write. After many years as a Family Doctor, it was fascinating to find so many diverse characters had been living in my "head" for all that time. Now they've been released! The second two books of the series are being edited and continue to give me great joy - even though I've now read them several times. I hope they give you much pleasure too and perhaps the motivation to make this world a better place by reaching out to help others less fortunate than ourselves.                                  A drop of kindness can make an ocean of difference.

About the Author Duncan Jefferson Born in the UK in September 1949 the youngest of three sons.Qualified in Medicine in 1972 at St Bartholomew's Hospital London Married to Maggie they moved to Australia in 1976 and spent 8 years as a rural family Doctor. Currently Chairman of the Pilgrim Trail Foundation, a registered charity.Guest speaker at the 9th International Colloquium Compostela in Santiago Spain in 2014.Currently  he ives in Perth Australia. He told his wife whilst on holiday in Rome that he wanted to write a story. Her response was "That's easy! All you have to do is give some time each day to it until you've finished it". So he did. Then he carried on with the next book and then the next one.Rosso is the first of a Trilogy: Rosso, Where's Rosso and The Young Countess.I've always been a Story-teller. During my working life I recorded the sagas of all those whom I had the honour to treat as a Doctor. With Rosso, I created a storyline that plays out in Medieval Italy but which mimics so many incidences that continue to exist today. There are characters that many will identify with and challenges that others will relate to. It's an adventure story that doesn't shirk suffering but offers hope when all may seem dark and lost. It has humour, love and lasting friendships and will appeal to readers of all ages and genders.

It gripped me and kept me focussed with the pace, the characters and the plot. I kept searching for answers to the questions, and still am, and impatient for the sequels. I loved the hope portrayed in healing of old childhood wounds coming from present-day experiences with adults. I also loved the diversity of characteristics in any one person. This comes from an author who has deeply experienced a wide range of people, and also delved deep within himself. The history and geography of the times has a lovely sense of anchoring the story in a context of reality. It was also interesting to me, that I hardly noticed the grammatical bloops, being drawn along with the story. And I'm a bit pedantic in that arena. So thank you Mr. Jefferson. I'm a fan.

It was beautifully written and invited me into the story to feel like I was in the world of Rosso. Duncan Jefferson is a descriptive and artistic story teller and he created a wonderful story. His use of words and the picture he created was magical. I can't wait to read the next two books in the trilogy and eagerly await their release.
