There have been all sorts of people saying that there will be a minimum of physics on the new Mcat. However, I have found that tests vary wildly. And you don't want to somehow get a physics heavy test when you were not prepared.This book is very thorough. It goes over literally every single physics topic that can be on the Mcat. And it goes over them in great detail. It is a bit tedious to read, but so worth it. I found it infinitely more helpful than the Examcrackers physics book. Especially because I was not the strongest physics student.The passages after every chapter are very helpful. And with a new copy of the book, you get 3 Princeton Review exams which are an invaluable resource.You need this book.

By Dean Pace-Frech Wow...if only I'd had these study guides twenty years ago when I was in school or even just ten years ago when I was finishing my bachelor's degree! The guide starts out with general test taking advice. This advice includes using more than one study guide and taking at least three practice tests in preparation for the real test. Of course the majority of this study guide is dedicated to the subject at hand: counseling, assessment, and diagnosis, mental health providers, and specific issues such as gerontology and multicultural counseling. If you're taking the National Clinical Mental Health Counseling Examination (NCMHCE), this is a great study guide. Happy Testing!

I have read some concentration camp stories with similar events and horrendous deeds. It seems we humans don't learn. Who edited this? The editing was non existent. I kept reading because I wanted to get the story but it was difficult.

About the Author Born in 1870 to prominent West Virginia family, Mary Johnston was well known as an American novelist of great talent. She was the daughter of Major John William Johnston, an officer who served with Stonewall Jackson during the Civil War. His stories became the impetus for some of her later historical novels. Although her writings at times reflected more of a fatalistic, rather than distinctively Christian worldview, her books provided readers with rich historical insights into early American history. The author of several historical novels, her most famous title was the epic story "To Have and to Hold", which attained great popularity in 1907 during its release for the celebration of the three hundredth birthday of the Jamestown settlement.

Adventure, romance, rich characters, and wry humor carry you into the forests of early colonial America, embroidered with the tragedies and intricacies of colonial/Native American relationships. The plot, at first blush simple and time-honored, is only the framework for a study in human character: the best of it, the worst of it, those in whom the base and noble are inextricably entwined. Jocelyn, the King's ward, escapes England in a bride-ship bound for the colonies and for her own reasons marries a planter who has decided--on a throw of dice--to come to Jamestown for the arrival of the brides. Their uncertain path is complicated by the arrival of the powerful suitor Jocelyn hoped to escape, by kidnapping, intrigue, arrest, shipwreck, and pirates, and the unravelling of the colony's delicate peace with the first Americans. I was captivated, not from the first page, but from the table of contents: Chapter Two "In Which I Marry in Haste," and Chapter Three "In Which I Am Like to Repent at Leisure". Read it at your leisure--you will have no reason to repent.

It starts out slowly but gets really good, really fast. It has Indians, pirates, swordfights, one of the best (worst) villains ever (& his evil cohort), betrayal, sacrifice, true love and ventriloquism. We LOVED the story then and, as adults, came to appreciate it on new levels. Same goes for my son, now grown up, to whom I gave the same privilege of great story-telling as a kid. There's a 1947(?) movie based on the book but the book itself, of course, can tell more of the story with the very best illustrations - those from your own imagination.

Suspending belief just a bit too much By Bomojaz Set in the early 1600s in Virginia, hero Ralph Percy marries Jocelyn Leigh on sight (she arrives at Jamestown on a boat full of women from England, there for the purpose of finding a husband; she is escaping a despicable suitor, Lord Carnal). At first she despises Percy, but after many adventures (some among the Indians), sword fights, pirating, and the eventual death of Carnal, who had come to America to pursue Jocelyn, true love wins out. Johnston is good at forwarding the action throughout the story, but some of the incidents are pretty far-fetched. They ate this stuff up back in 1900 when it was first published: it's one of the most popular historical novels ever published in America.

Wilson If you like mysteries and great enganging writing skills. . . the kind that keep you up way past your bed time and get you into work late. . . this book if for you. I love Aurthur Conan Doyle, but this guy is better. Half way through the book I found myself reading slower because I didn't want it to end!

Likable Protagonist, but Average Stories By Gypsi Phillips Bates Martin Hewitt, Investigator is a series of short stories linked by the protagonist, Martin Hewitt, and written down by a good friend, the journalist Brett. The similarities to Doyle's Holmes are striking and most likely intentional. Doyle had killed off Holmes in 1893 and other writers were looking to fill that void.Unlike Holmes, however, Martin Hewitt runs an investigative business, is a very personable gentleman, works well with the police force and easily makes friends. Add to this his ingenious ability for disguise and fluidity in thieves cant and in Mr. Hewitt you have an investigator that is able to blend in anywhere and solve the most intriguing of crimes.In Martin Hewitt, Investigator, Brett gives the details of several of Hewitt's most renowned cases, many of which he was intimately involved with as well. They are tales of impossible to solve crimes that Hewitt was able to crack by piecing together a few clues (a burnt out match, raindrops on a hat, uncapitalized letters in a note) where the police detectives had failed.While the solutions to these various crimes and mysteries do fit together well with the evidence and clues, the reader is not privy to all the information that Hewitt is (as he doesn't share it with Brett). Hewitt then chides Brett (or the police) for not having seen such and such clue and then builds his entire case on that missed bit of information. Morrison uses this ploy to make the solving seem even more spectacular, but this style patronizes the reader and is not a fully satisfying reading experience.----A note on the Kindle edition: There were no errors that I noticed, and the format worked fine on Kindle. Sadly, though, the illustrations aren't available on free editions. There was one story, in particular, that would have benefited by being able to see the floor plan.

3 of 3 people found the following review helpful. Not Sherlock Holmes but... By Pianoman88 Martin Hewitt is not Sherlock Holmes, but then again, who is? From what I've read, the character of Martin Hewitt was a contemporary to Holmes, and almost seems to me the "anti-Holmes". However, I did enjoy reading these mysteries very much. I don't think they're any more outdated than the Holmes stories are. But, if you're interested in this book, don't expect it to be like Sherlock Holmes, as Mr. Hewitt is not much like him at all. For example, he's not going to have a client walk into his office and give him his life's history through deduction like Holmes might. The characters don't quite have the personality of the Arthur Conan Doyle characters, and the writing seems simpler, and the mysteries generally simpler. However, I did enjoy reading them very much, and since I think I downloaded this book for free, you can't beat that. I don't think it has an active TOC, but if I remember correctly, very few typos. Anyway, for free you can't complain too much. Mystery lovers, give it a try!

Embark on the Quest of Duty By MedievalHistorian 14+ for violence and mature themes.5 Stars.Get ready for a thrilling escapade - one whose perilous themes will linger in your heart for long after you've read it. It's definitely an improbable, bold adventure. If you enjoyed the previous two installments in the Men of Grit Series, you'll be certain to enjoy this novel.This book was different from the other two books in the series, at least to me. It felt much more masculine, as if it were meant for guys. Horn's writing style has always been more bold and blunt, but this novel felt especially so. And the violence was definitely kicked up a few notches. I enjoyed it a great deal, but it does lean on the guy side as far as books go.On a historical level, I was very happy! This book felt and was very well researched. I even learned some new facts! Of course, as a historian myself, I could quibble over tiny details, but they were a matter of individuality. Every historian has different takes on things. I felt the ancient Roman settlement was very well portrayed. (Hence my 14+ rating.) Topics such as abortion, slavery, and flogging were covered, naturally from an edifying Christian worldview.I liked the story-line very much. It wasn't a "fluff" book. It was real, gripping, and young men in particular could learn a lot from the godly characters depicted. On the more controversial topics (such as deceiving one's enemy), Horn always explained from the Bible why the characters were doing right. One thing I liked was that this wasn't a happily-ever-after story. I cannot say I was surprised by the ending. Horn tends to give subtle hints about where the story is going, which I like. And the end portrayed the duty of true warriors in a very godly, honest fashion.I didn't cry, but there were several times (especially the end) where my heart was pounding and I felt sick. Good books do that to you. They make you think and come away changed. This is such a book. I recommend it to historical-fiction fans, history buffs, and young men with a heart to learn about the true duty of warriors.I received this book from the author in exchange for my honest review. I was under no obligation to write a positive review. The sentiments herein are entirely my own.

It is a story that will transport you through time, and teach the true duty of warriors and Christians, the two being synonymic in this tale of high adventure. John Horn skillfully weaves his stories with the stuff the 'good `uns' are made of - adventure, intrigue, suspense, humor, and best of all, great characters that keep the Christian faith, and strive to do His will, regardless of the cost.If you are having a difficult time finding good reading material, and/or are trying to keep your kids interested in reading, I recommend getting this book, and the other 'Men of Grit' titles.P.S. Read the books in order!!! Brothers at Arms, The Boy Colonel, then Secret of the Lost Settlement.

The first two books are The Boy Colonel, and Brothers at Arms.

Everyone can gain something from this guide - there is no way you can come away without improvement. It includes all the vital information one will need to pass the exam, from basic to advanced. Physical and Biological Sciences are covered as well as a Verbal Reasoning Test, sample questions and practice tests as well as definition lists! Aside from the actual test review, also covered are strategies for the MCAT and test taking, even addressing specific issues some have with test anxiety or preparedness. There is a lot of extra helpful information and bonus material. This is one of the most clear and concise study guides I have found, along with being fast paced and no nonsense - very cut to the chase, important information was identified and included, and you have all you need at your fingertips. As it says in the preface, it is important to do well in the high pressure, high stakes environment of the test day, so it is important to be as well prepared for standardized tests in general as well as your specific subject. This study guide does both! It feels very complete and no pressure - easy to use, easy to read, well organized, and integrated well with vital test taking strategies. You'll come out glad you used this instead of just heading blindly into the med exam. Black and white and color diagrams included where necessary. Good for visual learners as well as traditional. I believe you'll find everything you need in this guide - it's all there!

There’s a lot to remember and it’s hard to get it all in. Plus, there are plenty of things that won’t be on the test and if you don’t know what is what, you’ll waste a lot of time studying the wrong things and maybe not spend enough time on the things you really need to know. That’s where this study guide can help. This study guide has all of the material you need to learn in one organized location. All you have to do is get the guide and study it hard. The guide is very well organized so you don’t have to worry about any confusion there. It has a section on everything that will be covered on the test including verbal reasoning, biological sciences, physical science and plenty more. It also has practice tests with sample questions from each section as well. This guide has everything you need to prepare and then succeed on the test when it comes around.

I would recommend this pamphlet to be used in conjunction with other more intensive study matierial-such as notes from your interventions classes or the NBCOT Exam Prep. I would not rely on this alone to study for the board exams. It's a good general overview though.

By Kelly Baker I found this book to be a helpful kick in the butt about what I need to refresh myself on before I take the test. It covers a ton of information in a very brief summary, allowing you to determine what you need to look up versus what you remember well. That said, there were some significant typos such as "Ejection fracture" while talking about Ejection fraction in the cardiac review.

Higgins Historical fiction is the sister genre to my own genre of time travel, and Juniper and Anise by Marion L. Cornett is a wonderful example of this. I say this because the same amount of research has to be done in order to be true to the era. Marion has done a wonderful job of transporting the reader to another time. She is a talented author. I was impressed by the details she crafted into Juniper and Anise, from the feel of the era, speech patterns, to the description of newly paved streets in 1929.Marion chose a time period I have a particular interest in, the prohibition years of the Roaring Twenties, complete with gangsters, flapper girls, speakeasies, and bathtub gin. Her characters became real to me, such as, Polish immigrant, Hulda Rosenkowski, a strong independent woman who survived tough times by making high quality gin, along with her loyal friend and proficient baker, Izzy. I found myself caring for them, wanting to know with each page turn, what happens next.Another interesting feature in this book is that it spans multiple generations as the story is being told to modern day Chloe by an elderly eye witness, Claude, whom Chloe had sought out. You are allowed to experience the baby, Frances Rose, who had been in the constant care of Hulda and Izzy, grow up to become a spirited, never-been-kissed, eighteen year-old. As the years roll on, the book comes to a very satisfying conclusion.I recommend Juniper and Anise by Marion L. Cornett to everyone. As Hulda might say, “ojej, I just can’t wait for the next book.”
